Also I know what you mean about getting paranoid when you do things yourself ie spoiler creaking. I remember when I was a little and got a puncture and fixed it, I could not stop checking if it was going flat again!!! Still do it now! Thats why when I thought about building a Caterham I decided against it!!! The one I built(with 4 others) at Uni is still alive but has a few hidden suprises here and there!!!

Not to be too boring or anything but I just wanted to let people know the consumption I'm getting for everyone's benefit.

Driving fairly carefully around central London and NW Kent I got 27.66 MPG ~290 miles

Driving not so carfully (I mean not so economically, I'm always careful ;) ) on mostly larger roads I did 32.45 MPG ~330 miles

I am quite impressed with this as I thought it would be alot worse especially as they were the 1st couple of tanks and I've been a bit excited! Think the manual quotes 31 MPG combined. Current tank looks even better. :)

have just sold my st and brought a gt ! the st does about 35mpg and the gt about 30mpg .the st has a lot better low revs pick up,perhaps due to gearing,but above 5,500 wow boy ! does the gt shift!!!!

This has been some thred but to get boaring and back on topic on a recent motorway test I was getting 37mpg over 485 miles. I do have an SS1 which is the slowest Ferrari Escort you can have

Certainly dont get any where near that running around the doors all the same

I feel like a bit of a nerd for bringing this back on topic. My friends uncle owns a Seat Ibiza with a motor from an F430, claims he gets 45MPG on 160RON fuel!
