Hi all im new to this, I recently brought my corolla GTi :D SOOOO happy with it! been waiting almost a whole year to get one. :D Just i have a slight problem with it, :( at first the car was fine, but just know i started to notice alot of rust showing up!! :( I know these cars are known for rusting but MAN, i didn't know it happens that quick!! Only had it for about 2 months, and the rusting started very small on 1 of the arches, didnt think nothing of it, now its all over the place! Is there any solutions to prevent it from totally rusting!!!???!? :help::help::help::help: Cheers ptr

Sorry to hear that! Looks like whoever sold you the car gave it a light coat to tart the car up before selling it to cover the rust. The only solution is to grind off the rust, apply primer and a good respray. Applying a waxoyl under the arches and to the chassis etc may help long term...

welcome to the club!!! as suggested above^^^ the only way to ensure the rust stays away for good ( or long term at least) is to grind it off, treat it, put a light coat of some epoxy resin over the treated area, fill it and respray it. ideally cars of this age just need a full glass-out respray or even better a ground up rebuild, something i intend to do when funds allow, until then its just a losing battle against the rust

KEEP FIGHTING IT- THESE CARS ARE WORTH IT!!!

Welcome to the club also

ive also gone through the stages of removing rust.Ive rubbed arches back before and had them re-painted but once its infected its always gonna return.

I bought some replacment 1/4 arches and cut out the rust. Its the only way to stop it for good. And as for the front wings, just bought new ones..

just about finished a complete bare Shell, nut and bolt restoration on my rolla.

its worth removing the trim panels from the luggage area as rot on the rear strut supports is a problem too.

got to say it takes time to get rid of all the corrosion but the end result is worth it

Thanks guy, I'm probly goin to get a full body repray and ask the garage if they could cover up the rust. Got a quote for £400  is this cheap or will I find cheaper if i browse around??? .Guess I could just bare with the rust for a while :crybaby: but once it comes up its going to look

I'd say £400 is cheap... and you'll get what you pay for! As dawsey said, remove the interior trim (rear seats, side panels, boot panels and carpet to see the extent of rust...

I know someone who spent a fortune grinding off all the rust, prepping it and getting a mint spray job only for the rear suspension to collapse on a roundabout the first week out of the bodyshop due to the extensive rust!!!
