Tuning Up A T Sport

I have a Celica T-sport, 2003.

I looked into the chip part of this thread, and after speaking to many mechanics, they have all said that although it can be done, its near impossible as the engine is already highly strung, and altering the ecu would be my responsibility due to the encrypted enzo coding.

Whether all of that is true, I dont know. But it sounds a bit risky for me to blow around £300 on trying to improve it without upgrading other parts first. Hope this has helped.

I've not read the whole thread, so sorry if I say something that has already been said.

The stock ECU can't really be reprogrammed safely - so forget that.

Piggyback systems - The stock ECU will eventually override the piggyback, unless you spend big money on a system like AEM's.

Replacement ECU (AEM or Apexi) - Not worth it on a stock engine. You'll get a few horses but that's it, though the power delivery can be smoothed out.

Both the 140 & 190 were pretty much tuned to the max by Toyota anyway.

If you want extra power, it's a case of how deep are your pockets!

If you don't want to go for a supercharger or turbo, then you're looking at Stage 2 cams, new ECU, new tune, custom exhaust, quality air filter/induction kit and maybe a lightweight flywheel - this will give you a few extra horses and smooth out lift. Don't expect to see anything over 200bhp. If you're lucky you might get 190 or just over. I say that because most stock 190's on a dyno will hit 175-180 BHP. They never get near 190!

If you want to go FI, then expect to Shell out £8-10k in total. That includes the supercharge/turbo kit (there is not off the shelf UK turbo kit, so it has to be all custom), ECU tunes (more than 1 might be needed), gauges, quality tyres, uprated brakes (front BBK is ideal), lowering the car in order to help handle the extra power, complete exhaust system, stage 2 cams, any extra engine work (depending on the power you want), fuel return system and probably other stuff I can't remember right now!
