New Member, Alarm And Service Query...

Hi Toyota people. We are the happy owners of a 1994ish Totota Celica 2.0GT which is "technically" my wifes ride. Its about due for a service and I usually service our cars myself. I don't have a manual for it other than the owners handbooks which came with it so can anyone suggest whats involved in a full service on one of these.

I'm thinking of flushing the brake and clutch fluid. I presume regular DOT5.1 will be fine, it doesn't look like synthetic in there. Its pretty dark looking.

Any recommendations on which oil to use?

Anything need doing other than the usual and obvious service stuff?

She's showing 124,000 miles now (cambelt last changed at 114,000 service so no worries for a while there)

Last Q - anyone know where I can get a second fob for the alarm? Its the black matchbox shaped one with a red and black rubber button on. According to Toyota the company that suppled them has gone bust so they can't supply one.

Not looking bad for a 12 year old car is she?

Hi, and welcome to TOC,

Nice car mate, looks mint.

i don't know where to get a new fob from but theres a topic in the pinned section called celica manuals i think, should have everything in there for servicing the car. I'm sure the others will be along and point you in the right direction.

Cheers. The car was a two owner (IIRC) job with FTSH. Totally unmolested UK car and we got it a grand cheaper than most of the others we'd seen in Autotrader. Thanks eBay and your no-reserve auctions! Its been good as gold really since we've had it.

Hello matey. Welcome to the lunatic asylum. :D Nice Gen 6. (I`m saying that a lot lately - Think i`m on the turn. )

There`s a thread somewher all about brake fluids. Use the search function. Makes interesting reading.

On a N/A car i`d go for Castrol Magnatex.

Have a good look for worn or hardened bushes on the suspension. It`s surprising what new bushes will do for a tired car

Toyota main agent?????

I also got my car from e-bay not such a pretty story though -lol

I've heard Mobil 1 synthetic is the best oil ? unsure though..

Try eBay for the fob , usually a few on there

The car rides very nice but does suffer torque steer. Is this part of the design or perhaps something worn (bushes, subframe mounts if it has them?) I'm ususally a strict RWD bloke (usually V8s at that), so not sure how much torque steer is considered normal in a FWD coupe. Other than that I don't think there much amiss with the rubber/boucy/twisty bits :)

On the oil is that a 10w40 or a 15w40 as I think the Castrol comes in both?

I tried the main dealer for an alarm fob as I had a new master key from them but they told me that model is not available through them any more. Wondered if there was a third party/clone/"univeral" fob I could use instead.

I'll have a rummage for the brake fluid thread.

thanks all.
