Steering Wheel Radio Controls

I have bought a controller to link the original steering controls to a JVC headunit which I have already fitted, but am having no joy trying to establish which wire goes to the steering wheel wiring.

I have got the Haynes manual which shows all the other wires to Speakers + power but not the ones I need, also got the downloaded pdf manual files from TOC but that does not show either.

Does anyone know which wires operate the wheel controls or how to get at the wiring at the wheel ? tried looking last night but could not get the button enclosure away from the wheel, only saw 1 screw holding it on ,have I missed 1 elsewhere ? Also tried taking off column shroud.

The controller is a PAC SWI-ALP

Thanks for any help offered

Have now fixed the problem.Wiring from steering wheel goes to back of multi-display unit. Can now use steering wheel controls with aftermarket headunit

Just in case anyone else wants the way to do it :

Only three wires on the interface are used to connect to the radio wiring:

black – ground,

red – switched +12v supply

white – to multi-display unit

I connected the black and red to the cigarette lighter which only works through ignition switch. The interface has a built-in memory to retain settings.

Alpine and JVC use the 1/8th plug to connect to the radio, Kenwood use the blue/yellow wire.

Multi-display unit wiring

You need to disconnect the small connector at the back of the multi-display to allow the interface to work.

Pin No.6 Blue wire is connected to an earth point, I made a small lead to connect to a bolt behind the radio mount.

Pin No. 7 Black wire is connected to the interface white wire.

Pin No. 8 Red wire is connected to one end of a 150ohm resistor (supplied with kit) and the other end to the white wire.

I soldered a small length of wire to each end of the resistor then used scotchlocks to join the red and black to white wire. This way it can be put back to standard with little effort.

Interface version 8 was used when programming the buttons as per the instructions supplied.
