This has got me a bit baffled so all input welcome.

I have a Lucida 2.2TD which runs as sweet as a nut, BUT .. when I pull up to a stop, using the footbrake there is a regular clink clink clink noise coming from the area around the alternator. If I apply the handbake and release the footbrake, it stops. The other weird thing is whilst it is making this noise, if I turn on say the lights or another heavy power draw, ie blower, then the noise gets louder.

Anyone had this problem ?, and if so what was the solution.... ??

There are no noises during normal travel or braking. No apparent fluid leaks, no shiny spots on metal surfaces I can see indicating whats catching.

One thing I did find is that if u gently lever the main assembly forwards that has the alternator etc attached then the noise stops but still damned if can see anything catching.

The noise you hear when you are stopped is coming from the front end of the car, there is a secondary shaft coming from the engine which drives the alternator , power steering , air con etc etc, something on there is loose or worn, the fact that the noise level increases when you use electic means you possibly should look at the alternator. Remove the bottom plastic spillage cover, have a grab and pull to see if any things loose or moves. I've had this noise for over a year ,i just loose'd off everything i could see that moved , did it all up again and the noise went.

its probably a safe bet that the pulley bearing is shagged.or could be as simple as a fallen wire laying over the pulley

Hi my Lucida is just the same as yours I had a look underneath on sunday and found the rubbers in the front constant velocity joint had all split. To replace it has cost me £75 for two new joints plus the cost of fitting. Has anybody out in Toyota land done this job? if so is it possible as a home repair from underneath.
