Hi all,

I have just collected my 1990 red mk3 2.4d HiLux and have a few questions.

The interior is a bit of a mess but thankfully the rest of the truck is there and working albeit a bit dirty! The seats are ditched, the floor cover (plastic) is scruffy and the dash has a big hole where the stereo head unit should live. I have stripped out all of the interior (seats and floor mat) to clean out all the mud and bits of glass underneath. Luckily the old 'lux has plenty of plug holes in the bottom of the cab so I literally washed it out with hot soapy water

What I need so far is this lot-

Floor mat

Seat x2

Dash (stereo bit)

Does any one have any ideas on how to clea the interior plastics? So farI have tried dash cleaner, hot water with washing up liquid and furniture polish with not much success :crybaby:

I'm also looking for some spot lights to go on top of my roll cage and a front bull bar but these can wait until I have sorted out the cab and the MOT.

The next major task will be to get a decent stereo put in, well a stereo would be a good start! I can see that the original Speakers live in the dash each side but I wont be using them as they look very small. Instead I will be putting some 13's in each door card and maybe some 6x9's some where else, but where?? I thought about behind each seat but there's nothing to fit any into, where have others put there Speakers?

Lots of questions I know :o

Thanks, Ben

hi there,

sounds like we are both on the same level at the mo, cos i am now concentrating on putting in a new head unit and Speakers. behind the seats is the best i reckon for the 6x9's, maybe re-design the back in such a way that the back slightly slopes outwards as it goes to the floor, i am putting a big sub in between my seats, like a mini console, not too big. i have seen some Speakers put underneath the ash tray area in front of the gear stick, would be nice spot for one 6x9. meguairs dash trim is great for bringing up a good shine on all the plastic in the cab and smells nice too. i am stuck for seats myself, mine are very rough now with the bead pulled out of the side, think im gonna go for an alpine cd head unit in my mk3, like the look of them and would also fancy installing some carpet to try make it a bit more insullated and soud proof.

I was also thinking about fitting some new carpet into mine as the original plastic looks too 1970's for my liking :( trouble is that I have never done anything like this before, how easy or hard do you reckon it will be?

I have seen some nice black bucket seats made by a company called Rage from motorworld, only £220 a pair but you need the runners as new seats dont include them apparently.

I did think about a sub, but will probably go for an amp and 4 Speakers instead, my head unit is a Panasonic CD/MP3 player. Nothing special but then somethings always better than nothing!

would you believe i dont even have a cd player and been driving like that since jan, i can listen to my johnny cash cassettes, yes you heard me casettes, moving back in the world rather than forward. dunno how hard it would be to fit carpet, getting everthing lined up would have to be accurate, im sick of my interior too, vinyl is too cheesey at this stage, although very handy for mucky boots etc.where can you get new carpet for these trucks?.im trying to send you some pics i have of installs, got them off website cant remember name of. if i was getting bucket seats i think recliners would be the best, cos you can stil use space behind for minimum storage.

You might be able to get the carpets from a 4-Runner or Surf, would need some cutting but should have nearly the same shape.

I was thinking about using the original plastic as a template, the piece behind the seats would be dead easy to do but the floor would be quite tricky methinks.

I need a replacement dash or an idea where's breaking a HiLux near to me??

Cassettes - LOL :)

Any suggestions for other UK HiLux forums?
