Engine Management Light

My engine management light keeps coming on and its been back to the garage 3 times now and about to be the 4th. Previous messages on site have been related to faulty oxygen sensors but garage says no!

Last 2 times garage said it was the valve position sensor and they thought some dirt had got in the valve seat. But when I booked it in this time the service guy said this code could mean several other things. (First time it went in, so many sensors had been activated they said they couldnt tell what was wrong). I'm loosing faith in the garage and wondered if anyone else has any ideas before i take it in.

Car is still under warantee for next 6 months so want to get it fixed fast!! Its a 2l vvti avensis petrol

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Hi,

Is the warning light comes up when you are driving or when you turn the ignition key on contact position only and then goes away after you turn on the ignition?

Thanks for interest.

Ill check the error codes tomorrow when in the garage again.

The light first came on whilst driving and then remained on for several days.

The lights always come on when you first turn the ignition but should go out as soon as the engine starts. On 4 occasions now they have remained on for several days even after stop starting maybe 20 or 30 times. The garage has reset it twice and twice they have eventually gone out themselves.

The VSC and TRC lights come on with the engine management light (and stay on) but I understand these are linked so this is normal although rather odd.

The EOBD error code is P0012. This time they think the problem is electrical and want it back for 2 days to investigate. The lights came on again 2 miles after leaving the garage!!

Ref fault code P0012 if you can check both o/s/f and n/s/f electricl connections in behind the kick panels

at you feet. there has been a issue with water ingress ie teminals getting wet and green due to windscreen leakage at base of screen

Thanks for info. Checked out connections behind kick panels and all appears dry. Frightening number of cables though! I'd hate to be a toyota technician! Lights still on. :(
