Hhmmmmm...........which Avensis ?

Hi .I iam new here and hope to get good solid advice on what Avensis model to get.

There are a lot of older models for sale on Monster/Auto Trader etc and I have about £5-5.5K to spend .

My brother had a 1.8vvti and was a bit underwhelmed by performance ...........but the economy was very good indeed .I was thinking of a 2.00GS or even A 2.00 D4d .Economy is fairly important .The car is for the old lady and she will do around 450 MILES PER WEEK just going to and from work. Then with summer coming up there will be camping trips at the weekend etc

As for which year to get ??? ......... Some say avoid 2000/1 Y and W reg models and other caution of clutch slip probs with the Diesel versions so it is all a bit confusing !

Any ideas of what is the ultimate Avensis to go for in this price range ?? B)
