Gen 5 Clutch?

Are the clutch's on Gen 5 Celica's prone to oil ingress or rapid wear?

The Gen5 i am driving has always crunched into 3rd at anything over 30mph and teaching a Gen 7 this morning to respect his elders showed signs of a slipping clutch under load.

The car has only done 57K and had one as far as i know sensible driver and the clutch is still biting on the high end of pedal travel.

Wondered if they are prone to oil seal leaks?

The other thing i'm totally guessing here is that looking through the wiring diagrams i can find on the net i recall seeing an electrical link marked up as "Clutch".

They are not some how electrically assisted are they. It would be another electrical gremlin to add to my list if so and would explain the crunching at least. Never come across anything like electrics and clutches on previous cars but never owned a Jap one!

Think somebody on here did a Gen 5 clutch the other weekend? How did you find it and what does a new clutch cost?

Cheers Dom...........

No.

That'll be the synchro on 3rd then?

I think it's self adjusting? (hydraulic)

Don't think so, never heard of one before (presumably you mean the crankshaft rear seal?)

No electrical connections to engine clutch, but the air con pump has an electrically operated clutch. Any wiring will be for that.

Try TCB for an OEM (ASIN) clutch.
