Hilux Pickup Advice Needed!

I'm looking for an older Hilux pickup (late 80's early nineties) and was wondering what the best option is: 2.2 petrol engine or 2.4 diesel?

Is the transmission the same on the two options as I may be fitting a V8 conversion at a later date?

Any advice gratefully received!!

I have 9 points on my licence so I went for the 2.4d option as I dont need any speed, well I want it but I better not have any just yet...

I have a mk3 which I think still looks good, yes the mk1&2's look better but there's not that much in it I reckon. 1,2 or 3 still look way better than any of the 'rounded' shape new pickups.

The main thing that I would look out for is rust.

Milner 4x4 in Matlock Derbyshire have all the service / parts you could need and I think at very good prices, but then I am used to buying motorcycle parts which you would think are made out of solid gold-lol.
