Respray Options...

Ok... was thinking of getting the car resprayed as it's looking a little tired now!! (only after 2 years!!!)

Basically my skirts need repaired as they are cracked, the roof needs prof painted, the boot lit needs filled and painted, the rear bumper needs repaired and painted and my front bumper needs resprayed, oh and I have a small scratch on the passenger side!!! lmao...

Anyway, was speaking to my garage today who also do bodywork! :D

Was asking him for a rough price (but he's got to speak to his painter first). Asked if it would be the same price if I changed colour all together, but he said would more money.

He said tho I could stay red, but go with flakes/pearl/rainbow (whatever that is).

I would be keeping the bonnet and roof black so I wouldn't want these to look out of place if the rest had some fancy stuff going on.

Anyone got any ideas??

whqat's the difference between a respray and a blowover?? Seeing as I'm staying the same colour, could I go with a blowover?

Blowover is the same colour, and a new layer or paint with a re-laquer.

A spray is usually shand down, re-primer and re-spray ..

Spray it black then it'll all match Jim! :D

A blow over is a blow over. Basically they just spray a top layer of paint on the car to refinish the colour or to match it if other areas have been resprayed. If you have bits to repair, a blow over isn't going to be enough to hide the filler etc.

My mates getting his rev2 resprayed, hes going from red to Astral black, and its costing him £1500

a pearl red does look nice, thats what his is at the moment, a 3E5 red with a subtle glitter laquer....

If you've painted any of the car with aerosol, be sure to get rid of that first. It'll react with the new paint. Make sure you let the bodyshop know if there is any... you'll probably find it'll change the price considerably too due to the extra prep work required.

I used to be a painter not so many months back, i used to charge upto £1000 for a colour change. TBH if there is'nt much prep to be done then it's pretty straight forward once the car is stripped. you can churn a job out start to finish within a week.

If you want fancy paint i can name a few.......

if you want blue there is a real nice pearl in one called TROPHY BLUE. thats the blue you see on the new MG ZR'S etc.

or ford imperial blue which is found on the cosworth escorts and the focus rs.

Red i would suggest one called ROUGE LUCIFER. otherwise know in the trade as diablo red. nice red it is and it's found on peugeots.

Or you can get some stuff called MIPA GEMINI. it's the same stuff ken has got on his avensis. the advantage is that i used to paint this over a red ground coat so there would be no need to paint in the doors. (unless you were picky)

And if you paint this MIPA GEMINI over a blue ground coat then it gives a 4 stage flip and is rather nice.

If you have got plenty of dosh so spend on a paint job then go for some called SPECTRAFLAIR.

It works over a black or silver ground coat and when done properly it will look like a standard silver or black car.......until the sun hits it then it gives a real deep rainbow over the panels. doesa look very nice and it will set you back nearl 1k! thats for 1 litre. and you will need about 3 litres of it!!!

Or more ready available paint is the alfa romeo flip thats goes from light blue to green but this is becoming increasingly popular. hope this helps.

Diablo Red

Nah... think I'll stick with my red.

Tropyh Blue

Quite nice

Yep they're the ones but the diablo red pug pic does the colour no justice but it's your choice.

You could go for the fine rainbow glitter. this can go over you existing colour. basically your car will look the same but when the sun hits it you get a nice rainbow effect in the laquer. thats the cheapest option than going for a full on colour flip.

downside is you have to laquer the car about 4-5 times to get the laquer flat. which can take up to a week just to laquer it. which is ghey.
