Classic Insurance

Hi again,

Been checking out insurance prices for a Mk3 Turbo - for when i finally get one! - and the cheapest qoute i got was £650 fully comp with Lancaster. I couldn't believe how cheap it was, considering i'm relatively young, 22 , and only have 2 yrs ncb.

Its under classic insurance which could be a problem as they don't allow modifications. This shouldn't be too much of a problem, but i was hoping to replace the exhaust with a custom stainless system... i haven't asked them yet, but do you think they would allow this? You could argue that you are just replacing the existing part with something that will not corrode... though im hoping for power gains ;)

If anyone is insured with Lancaster could let me know what they are like, i'd appreciate it.

Do all mk3's come with a cat? If so, with the car the age it is, i'd be able to de-cat it and it'd still pas it's MOT wouldn't I??

Cheers in advance,

Mike

Lancaster are pretty good, and they will allow modifications (they don't like hybrid turbos though ;))

You can decat any mkiii supra legally, as long as it is not a "K" reg car, but they are rare and far between.

My girlfriend is with lancaster with her J plate supra turbo... I was however quite shocked today when we called up to get me put on her policy as a named driver (a year older, 7 years no claims vs her 0, and no points vs her three) I was initially going to go on it because we thought it would make her premium cheaper, however they said it would cost £80 more!!!!!

I rang Lancaster looking for a quote on a 2.5TT and they wouldn't even quote for anyone under 30 unless they'd owned the car for a year already.

£380! What did you do to the operator to get that price!! :P

Maybe i'll put on the charm a bit more next time! Who are you insured with by the way?

Oh, and Karma, your case highlights the fact that us males are getting victimised. Maybe its time for me to go under the knife and become 'tracy', then i could get insured on something more exotic :D

Cheers guys

Mike

I was under the impression that to get classic insurance you have to be over 30 and have another car registered in your name as a daily driver? I'm sure thats stipulated on my classic policy.
