I Want To Buy A Yaris In Ice Blue!

Hello everyone! I'm new here, so be nice. :-)

I'm looking to buy a yaris 1.3 in ice blue. Unfortunately the search has proven to be extremely difficult! Are these cars really so rare? Anyone have any light to shed on this?

After 3 months of searching for an ice blue near london with all the requirements (air-con etc) I am wondering whether it is in vain and I should choose another colour! Most 2nd hand Yaris' are silver and the only colours I like are light/bright blues. My 2nd choice would be MKII vivid blue but that would mean forking out an extra 5 grand which i'd rather save.

Any words of wisdom please?

Welcome to TOC!

Theres plenty of Ice Blues out there - they brought out a range of cars called the Yaris Blue, and the Ice Blue was one of three colours. Your only issue would be with the air con, as the Yaris Blue doesnt come with air con as standard, its only an optional extra.

Your next bet would be the T-Spirit, which came in Ice Blue for a short while, but you wont see so many of them about, but those are the cars with the air con!

Unfortunately, any light or bright blue cars with air con are going to be difficult to find, because the T-Spirit came in a beautiful bright blue called Balearic Blue (this was my old Yaris!)

and the Ice Blue, but only for very short periods of time.

I've had two T-Spirits, both blue but my current one is Carlo Blue, and it is very pretty and easier to find!

Just keep trying, you'll find one soon, but I'd recommend searching for a T-Spirit over anything else, they have the spec and the colours you are after!

I have been searching for a chilli red yaris for quite a long while now The interesting colours can take a while longer to find but i know that when i eventually do get it, i will love it that much more! Hope you find your special car soon! Also may be worth looking a little further a field as there are lots of places you can easily get to from london. Also try a country wide search just to see if there are many about.

Good luck and Welcome!

To be fair, Woody, you're after an SR which will make it harder to find. Good luck with that by the way. TOC should have a party when you find your dream car.

I've just done a nationwide search of used cars in blue on Toyota's site. Ignoring those with no photo which were just listed "blue". I found 27 ice blue Yarii with 1.3 engines. Of course, you'd need to decide how far you were prepared to travel to get one and also I didn't know whether you wanted 3 or 5 doors (don't start, the rest of you!) but it looks fairly promising.

Just to add to that ..... if you do find the car that you want at another Mr T dealership, just pop into your local dealership and let them know and they should be able to get hold of it for you

Hello! Thanks for your advice and all!

DA- that belearic blue looks quite cool. Another option for moi then. Yeah, i'm looking for a Yaris 1.3 Manual, airconditioning, CD player and audio steering wheel mounted controls. Under 8k. Picky? Yeah I know..

Would be great if I do find one at another dealership and get my local to get it. They've got a lot of silver yaris' in and keep pestering me to have one! I want blue dammit! Don't really have the time to go very far to get it at the moment, wil have to see how the search goes. How does it work between dealerships if they want a car off each other, would they charge me more in the end?

Also, i've only test driven a 2005, T-spirit. Would it be similar?

Chris - i haven't seen a caribbean blue in person but the pictures so far haven't enticed me. Unless a yaris owner on here has a fab photo of one, i'm yet to be convinced. Thanks though for being helpful. :-)

:)

If you see one in a brighter or lighter blue, pls do let me know. Also, please mind my ignorance but whats the difference with SR?

Ooo-- i found an ice blue in Hereford on the toyota site.

Specification includes anti-lock brakes, driver seat height adjustment, driver, passenger and front side air bags, air-conditioning, 14in alloy wheels, remote central door locking, electric door mirrors, front electric windows, immobiliser, front fog lights, front/rear head restraints, rake adjustable steering column/wheel, power-assisted steering, radio/CD, audio steering wheel mounted controls and tilt/slide manual sunroof.

May 2004, 6,999 pounds. Good?

Re- my question above on how inter-dealer thingy works. if i let my local dealer know about it, can he get it for me and will he charge me more?

They shouldnt do

Sounds like a lovely little T-Spirit although you could get the price down - whats the mileage like?

SR is a similar spec but looks a bit sportier, has nicer alloys. I dont think they have steering wheel controls though.... sure an SR owner will correct me if I'm wrong though.... I think those are Phase 2 (2003 onwards) models only

From what I was told by Mr T -

They will first see whether the car is available and depending on whether the car has had a lot of interest at the other garage they will decide whether to sell it to your local Mr T, they will then make an offer on buying the car from them so that they can sell it to you. If you are fully committed at your local Mr T they will buy the car from them for themselves and then sell it to you.

They don't pay the price advertised on the windscreen and get the car at a reduced rate (list price I think?) so hopefully your local Mr T can save a bit on buying the car, make a bit of profit and pass on a bit of the discount to you.

If you go in to your local Mr T and ask them about it I'm sure they would explain it better than what I have said ...... but at the end of the day they just want to sell you a car!

Correct

So yeah, was right about that (Cheers Davo!)

But the Ice Blue colour (and the Balearic as well for that matter) are Phase 2 colours only, which means you wont see an SR in them

You want one of these? :D :D Definately recommend it - ours is a Yaris Blue 1.3 with Air-Con which Toyota fitted as a freebie as I wanted a Colour Collection but they wouldnt let me :'(

I get a lot of comments on the colour, my Mum loves it, my Colleagues (well the Girls) think it's really different & fresh and it really reflects the light which you can see in the pic above.

I've seen a few 55-Plate Yaris T-Spirits around here..which gave me a bit of a shock as I thought they werent made any more but they must've been left overs or something. There isnt a lot of difference between the Yaris Blue & T-Spirit specs, the main being the T-Spirit has a sunroof and electric wing mirrors and the Blue doesn't. These are things that I've never had and therefore don't miss so it's something you might want to bear in mind.

Good luck with your search

edit: One of the 55-Plates I saw had an L Prefix on it registration which means it was registered in London aswell.

And air con.... yours might have it T.... but 99% of other Yaris Blues dont! ;)

Mileage for that yaris is 29,770. okay isn't it?

I wish that there were lots of yaris' infront of me in different colours to look at though. All of the ones i've seen on the street are either silver or black. (1 or 2 golds) The ice blue, i've only seen from far away when driving past my local dealer if some ppl have it there for service.

It's difficult judging what they look like through photos as each photo seems to make them look different! Like i've seen photos of the balearic blue before but it hasnt' looked as nice as the photo DA posted! Maybe her photos just come out nicer!!

Judging from DA's photo, her balearic blue is prettier than the ice blue. Hmmm...

If I get my local dealer to get hold of an ice blue - i'd be commited to buy it. Hmmm....

Hmm...

The Balearic Blue was limited edition aswell, you may find the odd one or two around the 53-plate mark but I'd imagine you may find it easier to locate an Ice Blue one.

My photos dont do the colour justice.... it really is stunning in the flesh - I was devastated when I lost mine - she went to the big garage in the sky after a head on collision....

Balearic Blue was available 03/53/04 regs and although it was rare, they do occasionally pop up from time to time, but its well worth having just for the rareity of the colour - I think there is only one other Balearic on TOC.

You can also get Balearic Blue on the T-Sport range (the model above T-Spirit) so you have a slightly wider search there.

I've found a couple on the Autotrader - thats a couple in pages and pages of Blue Yaris nationally!

Balearic Blue T-Sport

Balearic Blue T-Spirit

See - gorgeous! I've had had another if they were still doing the colour for the 54 plates.... sadly, they'd discontinued it by then... :(

Not that im biased or anything, but.... Get an SR!

They've got the most kit (apart from steering controls, but they're for lazy people who can't move their hand 12" to the dash.

They're phase 1 only so look better

They're all jap-built so are better built

They have a better exhaust, better wheels, lower suspension, better spoiler and better steering wheel and gear knob.

They're just better!

Also, Carlo Blue rules!

Or, if you want to spend a few pounds more, a T-Sport is a better bet... totally different car to the others.

Hmm, SR's do have less colours... oh well! I tried!

Hello! Thanks for all your good intentions, even you Seveer!

I've just gone through all the member pages and copied all the pictures of Yaris that i like in the different blues! Now comparing them to see which one I like best! :P I guess it will be luck of the draw which yaris I find. I'm supposed to be writing a dissertation at the moment so the hassle is extremely annoying (much more fun looking for cars than looking for yet more references), I wish I could just walk into my local dealer and go - I want that car!

So only SRs are Japanese built and since then they have been French built?

Do T-sports have a lower Chassis (the bottom bit is closer to ground?)

Do t-sports not have audio mounted controls? - How is T-sport different to all the rest apart from looking sportier?

I'm a bit muddled with all the different phases.. etc.

Thanks for the autotrader links DA - browsing...

The T sport is the range topper, sports model with a 1.5 engine

Phase 1, ran through to 01/02 i think (The best shape!!!)

Phase 2, have new, tear drop shaped headlights, revised dash and a few other bits i can't think of yet

Heres a thread that will help decify the phases - Linky

Basically the Yaris came out in 99 (T reg) but it was spruced up in the middle of 2003, thus the Phase 1 Yaris (1999/T-2003/03) and the Phase 2 Yaris (2003/03-2005/55)

A lot of people will tell you the P1 is better, however its a personal opinion. My personal opinion is that the P2 is the updated version, hence they interior looks nicer and they've added more toys. But again, my personal opinion! lol

As for the whole Japanese/French built thing - I believe all T-Sports are made in Japan and the Phase 1 Yaris was also made in Japan but then it was moved to France, but the T-Sport was still made in Japan. Again, some people believe Japanese build is better quality than French - again thats a personal opinion and not based on any fact! I've had two French built Yaris' and no problems with either!

Not sure about the chassis, but I believe the SR is naturally so many mm lower than other Yaris' because it was the sporty version of the car for a short while until the T-Sport was released in 2001.

And the Phase 2 T-Sport comes with audio controls, but not sure about the Phase 1 - again the audio controls were a Phase 2 addition. T-Sport comes with everything the T-Spirit does (air con, sunroof, leccy everything) plus it has the sports suspension and alarm, as well as the sportier styling inside and out.

Hope that helps!
