Guys,

What is a DIY cambelt change on a Gen 5 like to do? Whan are the scheduled intervals for changing it also.

The car has what i thought was a full service history but looking at the flat belt that services the alternator and air con maybe not!!

Have to have a look through the bills tonight to see whats been done!

I would'nt have thought Toyota's engine coolant and anti freeze was rust colour either so i don't think i'll put back in what i drained out!

Cheers Dom............

its possibly toyota red for life coolant - it just looks rusty - but for what it costs for 5 litres i'd put new in anyways to be sure.

Cambelt`s a bit fiddly but pretty straight forward. If you`ve got the cash spare it`s a good idea to change the tensioner and the water pump at the same time. You`ll curse if you have to take that ruddy cambelt cover off again.

p.s. The crankshaft pulley can be a sod to get off. Make sure you have a good quality puller (Preferably hydraulic) handy.
