hi williebear,i have recently installed the tns300 sat nav system in my rav......you can get the satnav box for arouind £100 on eBay.the gps antenna would cost you £192 from a dealership.read this thread http://toyotaownersclub.com/forums/index.p...topic=51882make .all you will then need is an earth plate £8.00 from dealership and the wiring loom again from the dealership which will cost £154.00 also the dvd sat nav disc which you will find on eBay..around £80-£100.when you add all this up you will save a fortune compared to £1200 you would pay at a dealership.hope this helps

Thanks all ...i will keep you updated in my quest in obtaining all the parts as i dont fancy paying the big bucks from the dealership..i gather the tns 300 is better than the tns 200..i also hope that they are easy to fit because I was told by a relation who worked for toyota that they would not fit one for me unless i bought it off them.. You'd be much better off getting a hand-held device like a tom tom go.

Much cheaper, more functionality, transferable from car to car and you can keep it when you sell the motor.

I know it is nice to have it all wired in, but the cost and hassle isn't worth it, IMHO!

Toyota offered to fit Sat Nav in my new RAV back in March. At £1200, I thought it was a bit too pricey, so I bought a Tom Tom Go. I'm told it is not as sophisticated as the Toyota, but does the job* and cost under £300.

*Well, it has so far - but I've put only 900 miles on the clock!

I'm using a Tom Tom One in my Rav but I don't like the screen mount. Has anyone used any of the alternative mounts with success?

williebear,

Don't mess around with Tom Toms or TNS's - fit the Toyota Full Screen system as your car has all the plugs ready to connect up. I managed to get hold of a brand new system for about 400 quid, and it took 20 minutes to fit. If you look behind your existing radio there will be some plugs wrapped in sponge - undo them and you have all the connectors you need for the best OEM sat nav on the market. The gps antenna fits in between the vent trunking and dash, so no difficulty there, and the system works a treat, but make sure you buy the newer unit that is self contained - not th older type that has a separate DVD drive (like the TNS 200 / 300 which has a drive under the passenger seat, and additional loom)

Once you get the new unit in you can then add a reversing camera! 30 quid in parts and half a days work.

On that note, you will also have the connector in your head lining for the auto dimming rear view mirror if you fancy fitting one of those.

Regards

Mooranger
