Road Tax

With the road tax increase in the new budget i was aware i would have to pay more.

I have a corolla gti

My tax was £57.75 FOR 6 MONTHS

AND £165.00 for the full year.

Now, i am paying £96.25 for 6 months!!

Whats with that! its just stupidly expensive.

just out of interest how much are you guys paying?

James

your car must have excessive emisions... the cost is based on emissions now

I take it you have the t-sport. How much is your tax...

My emmissions as far as gti's are concerned are pretty much standard.

Now its based on emmissions it seems the government will be forcing out the old cars to force in the new more economical/environment friendly.

Just another way to get people of the roads, and more money into their pocket.

when i checked on the new website, the t-sport isn't listed... only the compressor (which is £190)

you can check which category you are in here

http://www.vcacarfueldata.org.uk/ved/

assuming that your car was registered after march 2001

if it's before march 2001 then you are automatically in the "o-zone killing" zone.

you got some thing wrong there mate, or they did when you last got 6 months tax. My corolla gt which is same engine as yours was £93.50 for 6 months tax when i taxed it 5 months ago, so where the £57.75 FOR 6 MONTHS came from i'm not sure? they must have under charged you. and old cars dont go off the new emmissions way of taxing, as they dont have all that info for older cars, i think if i remember right its only cars made after some point in 2001 that are taxed based on there emmissions

Wondered if anyone would pick up on that..

Yeah that was an error on their behalf for sure.

The Aygo is tax appealing yeah, but the initial outlay for a car with reasonable tax is obviously a sting.

Not that I would do it, or condone it, but avoiding the tax is even too much of a risk now.

Quoting the advert

"Not having to look here (in the car window)

But here (on their "hi tech database lists")

Risking a £40 pound fine if you are under 28 days without tax, over 28 days then its £80. Or somehow up to £1000

The public is well and truly cornered! There is no way out. The government’s potential to print money is endless. Obviously I expect a yearly inflation, as its all relative. But I think where we are at now id just ludicrous.

Rant over, stressful day....

£190 for an automatic Corolla! - And what grates so much is that we more than pay for the climatic effect in the huge amount of fuel tax levied in this country.

I think I want to have Gordon Brown's babies...
