Hi guys,

I've got a mate who's looking for a Gen7 at the moment - he's got £10 to spend and is interested in getting a 190. I've obviously given him the lowdown on all the issues and things to look for, but I've come up against a bit of a gap in my knowledge........particularly the pre-facelift specs.

I remember that you could spec Premium or Style packs on either the 140 or 190 and then there was the T-Sport.

Thing is, he's looking at a 190, which has a 190 Badge on the back aswell as a T-Sport Badge (odd, I thought - I thought you got one or the other?). Inside, it's essentially got the Premium pack with digital climate control, electric sunroof but fabric seats. It's definately got the VVTL-i engine - he's testdriven it and it 'lifts'. ;)

Thing is, the guy is trying to pass it off as a T-Sport. It hasn't got Traction Control (he says was optional pre-facelift) and it's only got the 16" wheels. But it's got the rear spoiler.

Sounds to me like an odd 190 - can't work out why it's not got leather when it's got everything else.

Can anyone shed any light on this? Could it be an import?

It's a 2002 '02' plate w/26k on the clock, FTSH and looks mint, apart from a bit of bubbling on one of the alloy (2nd set as first were replaced under warranty). Is it worth £10k or less?

What do you think guys? Help would be much appreciated.

Cheers mate - I'll pass it on.

Ooopps, think he's found another £9,990 down the back of the sofa, so I guess £10k budget now!

Thats a wierd mix of packs.

Its a 190, without a doubt. Someone's put a T-Sport emblem on the back of it afterwards.

£10k doesn't seem to bad a price though for milage and spec.

Hi,

I bought a 2001 190 a few weeks ago, 35k on the clock, really nice condition, FTSH etc etc. I paid £8300 for it and consider that a bargain.

I tried to find out what the various packs were, but I was told that the 190 came basically with ALL of the bits from the various packs, but with an option for 16/17 inch wheels. I also was of the opinion that all 190's came with leather.

Mine had 16 inch wheels (now changed) but leather, alloy pedals, digital climate, electric sunroof, rear spoiler etc etc.

The 190 and T Sport Badge is very strange - should be one or the other - the first car I went to see had T-sport Badge, but the log book said it was a 190.

Suggest giving the reg. to a dealer and they will have records of the original spec / packs.

Hey - cheers guys!

He ended up buying the car for around £9,500 - he's pleased given the bodywork and interior is in first class condition. He eventually found out that all our thoughts were right and the T-Sport Badge has been added on by the previous owner.

190's don't necessarily come with leather - it was the premium pack, which added the leather, climate control and sunroof which upgraded it.

He seems really happy with it though..........mind you - a fair step up from a Ford Ka - anybody would be happy! :D

Another satisfied Celica Customer!!

I checked out the specs before I bought mine due to loads of confusion about premium/custom/sports packs.

At least 3 first class sources, including What Car and Parkers agreed that the 190 comes with leather, climate and electric sunroof as standard.

I've just had another look at What Car to make sure and it still says the same - leather/climate/electric sunroof is standard.
