Alarm Problem

I have a UK spec 96 Gen 6 with a stock alarm. It keeps going off on its own for no reason. All windows and boot are shut, the car doesn't get knocked when it goes off, it's not the wind......

Any clues on where to start to diagnose what is wrong????

any help would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

remove all coins away from the Ashtray!!!! lol

found the other thread, didn't have any coins in the ashtray but i did have a key on a metal key ring in the centre console storage bit. I've removed the key and anything else that was metal in there, foil off a nurofen packet...........wait and see, haven't heard it go off yet!

Believe it fella, it happens!!

I do believe it thats why I find it funny!!!!!!!!! :D

That would have baffled me for a while I tell thee. I can see weekend after weekend spending hours trying to figure that out, probably faff for a couple of hours, get mad, have a joint and think f!*k it, at least I've got double glazing, and all of a sudden it's saturday again and the process is repeated!!! :D

ok, it's not keys or coins, still going off and nothing in the car. Tell you what it's !Removed! loud when it goes off. Going to try turning the sensitivity down on it. Don't think it's the Battery as it turns over just fine after the alarm has gone off.

Any other suggestions????

ok, i had this problem. Have a look about halfway down this thread about the alarm

At least this give you an idea why it set off

Basically for me the movement sensors were dead. I ended up getting a Toad Alarm :) not what you want to here.

Just to note i got the extra tilt sensor for the toad alarm. Other day was the first time i jacked up the car and forgot about the alarm. The alarm went off after jacking it up by about 2 inchs :) so at least it works.

I read this, which worries me slightly as when i turn the ignition on after it has gone off the light doesn't (centre dash) doesn;t come on.............however since turning down the sensitivity i havent heard it which doesn't mean it hasn't gone off of course but...................

  • 2 months later...

My gen 6 has developed a twitchy alarm in the last few days. As with your's my LED doesn't register that the alarm has been tripped. Have you solved your problem & if so my neighbours would greatly appreciate you sharing that info with me.

never got it solved. Shut all the air vents off, turn the heater control to max hot and change the intake of air to circulate rather than from outside. Still doesn't stop it going off but think it helps, i don't alarm it at home anymore but do everywhere else!
