Advice On Selling 2004 Avensis

Could anyone give me a bit of advice on the best way (in my particular circumstances) to sell my Avensis - or some tips or anything dodgy to look out for!!

I now live in France and have therefore decided to sell my UK RHD Avensis within the next couple of weeks on a trip back to the UK. I haven't unfortunately got enough time to advertise it in Autotrader etc and wait for people to come and look at it as I will be staying with different friends & relatives around the UK. Therefore I probably have no option but to sell it to a dealer. At least due to my intended route I could sell it anywhere between Dover - Leicestershire - Cornwall. Someone has advised me I would probably get a better price away from the counties near the factory as there will be more cars on the market nearer to Derby - is this true?

The car has not been modified at all and is the usual spec for a May 2004 Avensis 1.8 T3-X. It has no bumps and hardly a mark on it - I've owned it since new. It is Petrol, Manual, 5 door hatch, Silver Steel colour. Mileage will be just under 25000 by the time I have driven back. I am listed as first registered keeper. It's been serviced by a UK Toyota dealer at 10K and 20K miles, and has always been registered and insured in the UK.

The good news is that I can't seem to find many cars just like mine for sale on the Toyota dealer website or Autotrader so this either means they're in short supply or worse, not as popular as I thought!

If dealers are selling such a car for £10,499 how much might I expect to get from a dealer?

Any help or advice would be much appreciated.

Cheers

Can't you get a friend or family member in the UK to sell the car privately for you? (ie leave it with someone when you return home)

I would imagine that a dealer wouldn't offer you anywhere near what you could get privately. I was under the impression that dealers only give you a good deal on a part-ex.

Parkers says...

Average mileage: 10,000 miles

Private Good £ 10310

Private Poor £ 8720

Part Exchange £ 9560

Obviously you'd have to factor in the extra 15K miles...

I'd try to do as dazwan said and get someone to sell it privately for you but it could be worth just dropping in to some dealers and asking what they'd give you for it, just don't make it obvious that you need to shift it quickly. ;) If you can get someone to sell it for you then you can always walk away from a poor deal.

Parkers is abit out then..... the car is 2yrs old not 12months....

You'll be lucky to get £7500 from the dealers.... let one of your family sell it privately on your be-halve as has already been mentioned.

Yeah but how many people are gonna buy the car if they see the car is registered to someone else at a different address?

Thanks everyone for the advice so far...

I guess you may be right that a buyer could be suspicious that the car is not registered to the 'seller' at the seller's address. Of course I know the reason and that's it's not suspicious but it may be offputting to a potential buyer.

I have tried to think of someone who would be prepared to sell it for me privately if I leave it with them but it's quite an impostion (as well as the fact they need space to store it until sold).

Don't understand why Parkers would say average mileage 10000 for a 2 year old car ??? I thought 25000 was about average for its age.

Cheers

car is worth £8700 trade accept £8500

Those prices are in line with Cap but you may be offered less than trade money from a dealer.

You might want to try an evening or saturday auction at a large auction site. You may well get more than dealer for it on a good day.

Regards

Derek
