Non-electric Block Heater...sub Zero Start Ups!

Most of us wont have a clue what I'm going on about...

..when I bought my Finnish 1.6 VVTi 2005 car, I am sure there was an option on the list of getting a block heater than ran on , say, kerosene, or something like that...

..I guess the idea is that you fire it up, wait 10minutes to turn you oil back into something that looks less like butter, then start-up....all this in the absence of an electric connection to run a electric block heater off..

..does anyone have an experience of this?

many thanks

Hi , different make of car but they are a standard feature on BMW 530 diesel . they burn diesel and reduce warm up time a great deal , its the same type of thing as a night cab heater in a truck , except its plumbed it the coolant system.

I use it when it is cold. temp needs to below 8 degrees, heaters on max temp and full blast then press the pre heater button. not sure what it does to your mpg though :D
