Positionning Axle Stands

Hi all,

Firstly I have to admit to being a bit of a lurker on this forum. I drop in and have a look around but never post so here goes.....

I have a '01 Yaris GS 1l which I use as a runaround and every day commuter. Working close to home meant that yearly mileage was very low (around 7k) so apart from all the usual checks I rarely got my hands dirty as servicing took care of everything.

A new job with a lot more commuting has meant I have put around 8k on the car since the last service and the next one isn't due until July so I need to do an interim oil change. I've jacked the car up before using a trolley jack to take the wheels off but I don't want to go underneath it without axle stands.

On my other car I simply whack the stands on the chassis under the engine and it's fine but I haven't a clue where to put them under the Yaris

Does anyone have any ideas/tips?

Hey and welcome to the club! A haynes manual would be really good for you in cases such as this, but i will try to answer your question as much as possible.

There are 2 jacking points on each side of the car, located underneath the door sills. If you look under you can see two notches at each jacking point (closest to front end of car of side sill and closest to back end of car side sill) In between these two notches is where you aim for. Put the jack under onto the jacking points and go for it. as the sill has a lip it is advised to use a block of wood with a groove in it to keep the weight evenly distributed on the jack rather than just resting on the sill edge. Then get similar blocks to use on axle stands as close to these jacking points as possible.

Thanks for the reply. I've used the standard jacking points before when I didn't have the trolley jack.

Guess I'll have to go to work with a saw and a couple of bits of wood before I start on the oily bits at the weekend then!

Lol yeah there is probably an easier way but this is the way the haynes manual said.
