Gt4

Hi People

I am after some advice.

I am currently driving a pug 306 Gti6, but wanna change to a Jap turbo. I have a list of a few cars that i am looking at, Scoobie Impreza WRX STI, Nissan 200SX, Celica GT4, etc.

Any way I have seen a few GT4's around and really like the look of them (around M plate), but i don't know much about them at all.

Could you give me advice on things like running costs, repair costs, insurance group, performance, 0-60 times. and anything else worth knowing about them.

I will have about 6k to spend on one of the above so any help very much appreciated!

Ryan

My fueling isnt right on mine at the moment so im losing power but i still beat Scooby STIs. I think STIs are over rated, slower than a gt4, and group 20 insurance. and u see an sti every 10 seconds on the road.

the 0-60 in 6.3 stat is rubbish i think. Mine does it in around 5 with just a filter and exhaust.

+ the stats above are for a UK spec. Get an import that has 255bhp standard.

hope this helps ;)

What group insurance are the GT4's??

This maybe a silly question but how can i tell the car is a jap import?!?!?

Thats the problem with the scoobies they are quite common, but i do like them alot. Like i said I don't know anything about the GT4's, so as much advice on them as possible would be appreciated.

I had seen the GT4 0-60 time at 6.3 somewhere before - I thought that was quite slow all things considered. Thats just under a second quicker than my pug.

Has anyone on here got actual 0-60 times on there car?

What are repair costs like on the cars?

import = big square number plates , but not always .

chassis number is 12 digits only not 17 like uk models AND BEGINS ST205

drivers sun visor has jap writing all over it , plus a jap import will usually have fewer miles and in better condition IMHO .

those stats are crap and were supplied by others , the kerb weight is 1380 kg , jap models are 255 ps which = about 250 bhp . i'd put 0-60 down as into the late 5's

parts can be expensive , depends on what fails - common parts being the superstrut suspension at around 500 quid a side , but usually only 2 of the 3 parts need changing at around the 340 quid mark per side .clutch failure is also fairly expensive , some quote 800 quid to do , mr.clutch quoted me 200 quid if i supply the parts .

running costs also is driving style related - flogg it and expect 16 to 18 mpg - do a steady 56 mph and returns are in the 30's

for insurance try norwich union or churchills

Cheers guys - it will be a fair few months before i can get one, but i want to get an understanding of things to look for when buying, and want to make sure the car is going to be what i want!!

How do they handle? I think i am liking the idea of the GT4, it sounds like a good all round car, also they don't seem to be very common! -

how much are servicing costs?

How do they handle?

Amazing!! This is probably one of the best thins about a gt4. :D

servicing is usual cost + cost of oil change every 3000 miles

I have seen the imports being quoted as 5.5 seconds 0-60 i a jap mag. sounds about right.

Don't pay too much attention to the power figures on the Four especially the difference between UK and Imports. Most seem to come out at around 250-260BHP in stock form however can vary between 225 and 275. My UK four put down 271BHP, 260LBFT at interpro.

Best way is to go for a ride in a few and see which feel quick, some seem to go really well but others seem like they need laughing gas to get them going  .

Insurance is group 17.

Handling really is the best thing about these cars especially when their in good shape... I've yet to feel like the cars ability will end before I chicken out :D .

I have raced many STIs and none have been able to beat me. They are overated!

Scooby's are fast off the mark, thats because of the way that they are geared, really short, GT-4's usually reel them in by the end of a 1/4 mile

I agree, they are very fast off the mark in 1st gear, but by 3rd gear they are behind you and dissapearing fast

Hey, I'm in a similar situation, but driving a Punto GT1 (1.4 Turbo), for me it will come down to insurance, gt4 is much less expensive to insure than the impreza or evo, your average 200sx will not come close performance wise to a gt4 st205 import.

Another option is a rover 220 gsi turbo or rover tomcat, used to have one, they are very nice cars! and they are so light, used to smoke most impreza's in mine :D

But yeah, hopefully will be looking to part ex my Punto GT (and throw in ~£1500-2000 cash) for an st205 import, dont have the cash yet, but will have hopefully in a month or so
