I've just been told that Rav 4s come with Chain-Cams.

Does the Rav-4 (2001) 2.0 VVT-i come with a Chain-Cam or with a belt?

Thanx B)

Really?

Well, honest John says that, "The 2.0 VVT-i is a chain-cam engine. " Could the chain be for the newer models? Mine is a 2001.

Check it out here: http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/road_tests/index.htm?id=67

second last paragraph, last sentence (mind you, there are only 2 sentences in that para)

timing chain/ chain -cam same thing....engine is run by a metal chain ,not a rubber timing belt

Sorry mate, I got confused. You're right. and thanks for waking me up.

btw, how and when do they change those things? Surely they can't treat them the same as belts. What's the process?

Every 100k i believe

Does the D4D engine have a chain or belt?

Just had my cam belt kit changed on my RAV4 D4D. As they were doing some work and needed to remove the old one (needs changing at 60k, mine was in for 50k + other work) got them to put new one on, said kit was £132+ vat....

As far as my knowledge supports me, which aint much, the newer models of Rav 4 (2000+ I should think) use a Cam chain and not a belt.

The D4D versions still use a belt.

Please correct if I am wrong.

Thanx B)
