Hi All,

This is my first post so please be gentle with me :)

I've been reading the posts here and can see that there's a wealth of experience and advice on hand, so here goes.....

Having just taken delivery of a shiny new XT4 it's time to say bye bye to our trusty 3 yr old. Having been offered what I thought was a derisery amount by the dealer I thought I'd sell privately. I don't know whether I'm asking too much, but there has been little interest in a car that I thought would sell easily.

The car is a 5DR GX Auto 52 2002 with 42k on the clock, in Balearic Blue. It's one owner from new and we've had it serviced by Toyota. I love it, but I love the new model even more.

Initially I thought I'd advertise it around 12k - preparing to take an offer - but there has been a decided lack of interest in Autotrader. I've decided to cast the net wider and lower the price - taking in the local press too.

I'd like some sort of feedback - do you think I'm asking too much, has the budget put people off 4x4's? Are there any better places to advertise?

I await your response with interest...

Cheers,

Mike

Uumm.... Not sure if I'm brave enough for that!! eBay is great for rooting out those rare beermats and much sort after novelty butter knives - but selling the car...... I'll have to think on that a while.

Anyone with positive experiences selling cars on eBay?

Tried to sell my Ford Focus on eBay motors. Not a sniff . Put it in autotrader and the phone never stopped. Based the price on Glasses trade in price-paid about £3 and obtained price on line. Possible I could have got more for it but I needed to sell. So provided you get more than the dealers trade in (taking account of cost of ad etc) you are a winner. Don't be greedy , there is a lot of metal out there. Oh and be careful of Building Society cheques and bankers drafts -there are a lot of forgeries out there. Ask for the name and address of issuing branch and phone them -use directory enquiries , not a number that the purchaser gives you -it could be his mate. Sounds paranoid but think how long it takes you to earn that sort of money

I have just sold my wife's RAV4 - petrol 5dr GX 43k on a 51 plate and only got £7600 after 3 weeks in autotrader and eBay. People only want a bargain on eBay and there seems to be plenty of cheap RAVs in autotrader. Hardly any interest at all. Good luck trying to sell yours.

I bought my 99 3 door with 9K on the clock for £6100 on eBay a couple of years ago. It was £4k cheaper than dealers were asking but I got it cheap because it was not well advertised or promoted - no pictures or details. It has turned out to be a brilliant car and the owner just wanted to make more than the dealership were prepared to give him p/x for a new one. See pic on this thread: http://toyotaownersclub.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=52331

My husband failed to sell his Merc estate thru Autotrader for 6 weeks (no response at all!) but within a day of it being advertised on eBay, he received an offer he couldn't refuse and withdrew it early from auction.

Yeah, it seems to me that the car trade is a little slow at the moment. My beemer is taking it's time to sell, and I want rid so I can start using my lovely Rav again!

Well I finally bit the bullet - not a sniff the second time around - down at £9,999 in Autotrader. So it's now on eBay as suggested here and already there's sizeable interest - the next few days will be interesting...

Its a sad but true fact, when a new model comes out ,its knocks the previous model values for six, you can only be guided by price guide web sites and also what other similar model sell for in Auto trader.

price guide sites...

www.whatcar. co.uk,

www.parkers.co.uk

www.wisebuyers.co.uk

Just done a bit of homework for you :) ....

parkers site.......=£10225.00

Whatcar site......=£8999.00

Wisebuyers.......= £10188.00

So going by that ,try not let anyone knock you down lower that £9500-9250, and a little tip don't let them see you have just bought a new car, as they will know your desperate to sell  .
