Carina Lean Burn Sensor

Have now found I'm getting an error 21, indicating a cream-crackered Oxygen Sensor on my Carina 1.8GS. I am presuming this is what's causing the slight uneven running.

Looking through previous posts I have no choice but a Toyota part at £200-300.

So, the question is, could there be something else causing the ECU error code to show up other than a duff sensor? (I know, but I can dream) If not, is this a job that any garage can do, or should I be going to a Toyota dealer and getting stung for huge labour charges too?

Finally, will the sensor being broken have caused other problems - eg damage to cat?

The oxygen sensor for a Carina is a Dealer Part only BUT

Supply a genuine Toyota part at £239

Fitting is very simple. There are two 10mm nuts (which will be corroded and will need splitting) securing the sensor onto studs on the front pipe on the exhaust (just behind the radiator). The sensor comes with its own electrical cable which plugs into a socket on the radiator housing.

The job will take you about 20-25 mins max.

Alternatively buy a second hand part from a breakers yard: try:-
