hi guys tonight as i went for a short drive an a**hole with a subaru impresa overtook me from my left side (wrong side here) and nearly touched the side of my aygo soooooo i chased him for about 4km of straght and some twisty road! i was impressed how my car could keep up with him and sometimes nearly overtook him when he has a 16ltr 16v engine :o i was really happy (and proud of my AYGO ) coming back home!

yeah really the aygo impresses me too once a guy in a megane wanted to pass me i just needed to press the acelerator and he never saw me again :D

Lets not get carried away guys, it probably has more to do with the way you drive them than it's real ability to pull away from a scooby!!

Agreed though on a tight and twisty road with the right mods it can shift damm quick for a lil' un.

There are a lot of songs with dream in it....................... :P

Yeah it's prolly the driving style, but still good either way!

I used to have a 1.0L Yaris which was very nippy for what it was and surprised a few people too

well it wasn't a WRX! it was just a 16/16v

if it was only twisty roads yes i would say its the driving style ! but if you have a 1 mile strech of road there is no skills in pressing the accellerator and changing gears up guys!

I wouldnt have thought an Aygo would ebarress any Honda?

But i kicked my mates *****, who drives a golf 1.4, I over took him from 0mph when he had went through the lights at about 20mph as the lights changed, was awesome.

Haha this thread is Sssssooooo funny ....... do you really think that your 1.0l can really beat any of these cars off the line

It's either a crap driver or there not even trying

But hey we all have one of those experiences ...... I remember having one with a BMW 3 series, he decided he had enough of me giving it the 'big-un' in my super fast 1.3L yaris and put his foot down

There was no way my car could pull away like it did

So keep dreaming guys

There is no way an aygo beat anything on a straight but round corners is different cos i kept up with my mates's 1.4 escort and a 1.2 clio :D but when theres a staight piece of road i just get left behind

Just wait till the engine modders get hold of them. 160 bhp in an Aygo would be a leathal combination!!

 i want to see 160bhp on the aygo  that would have the performance of a lotus then :yes::yes:

the secret of having a fast car is not to give it a slow running in! they seem to get used to the slow driving so i only do the first 3 days of normal driving then i started trashing the car! after all its a Toyota so i dont need to worry about reliablity

but for those who dont believe unless they see : i have another fast car and dont need to bluff with this one !

Compare it to my slow car ..

0-62mph 6.2 sec

Max power 237 bhp at 8300 rpm

(Which are the UK book times, the JDM is tested 0-60 5.5 and 247 bhp).

And that's a slow car. I've a feeling these cars being beaten/kept up with are not even noticing. The same as when I was "racing" a RT12 @ Nur' this weekend.

I agree with Dave.... the Aygo is good and cute and sweet.... but its not gonna beat a Scooby, unless the Scooby driver is 90 years old and they're nipping to Tescos.....

My Yaris is pretty nimble and has eclipsed Corsas, Puntos, 106's - similar sized and specced cars no problem... but would I beat a Scooby..... heck no!!:lol: I'd not even try - its just embarassing!!

And as for the 0.4 seconds slower - the Aygo has the smaller engine, but its also a smaller and lighter car, so that kinda makes sense to me....

And to add to that -

In the real world the yaris would have the better performance ...... try filling your aygo with passengers and shopping and then you will notice the extra BHP/torque

Plus I guess that a yaris would also out perform an aygo going up a hill due to the same reasons (who wants to test it?)

But all in all if your drive on your tod back and forth to work its a top little moter ...... and I can't knock it one little bit

if i was in your neghbourhood i would have accepted to test it with you no prob! i will find a local yaris and have a race with him and i'll give you the result  the prob is most of them are imports (vitz)10vvti with autobox so they are slugish against my manual Aygo! will try to find a local yaris which will have a manual box to be fair

why when someone mention scooby it seems to be a monster????? the WRX is a monster but the 16 16v with its weight is no killer! and if you compare power to weight ratio could be close with the Aygo !

here are the facts:

AYGO 10vvti 3dr = 790kg 67bhp = power to weight ratio of 0.084 bhp per kg

Impreza 16 16v= 1383kgs 110bhp= power to weight ratio of 0.079 bhp per kg

so in figures the ago has more power to weight ratio than the feared scooby

Just wait till the engine modders get hold of them. 160 bhp in an Aygo would be a leathal combination!!

Mr T do you think you could make one that revvd to 8000-9000rpm (say 80-90ps) and kept its CO2 under 120g/km, the motor is brill at the moment but when you are going uphill you definately notice a big gap at 35mph when you change to second, its brill on the flat though, but if left in easy it changes up at 6000rpm :( . Oops have I said too much  .

Just think the extra weight of four cyclinders or a supercharger would spoil it.

Driving home late the other night on the M1 there are, as you may be aware a number of downhill sections followed by uphill sections. I tried a little experiment. Try bombing it downhill (with nothing around of course) in 5th and see how slow it ends up with your foot flat to the floor on the hill. Then try it in 4th and notice the difference.

It doesnt have the power to cope with the gearing of 5th on hills it dropped by nearly 30mph!

Having said that it is far more capable in 4th just don't expect to accelerate!!

This is the only time i miss having a big engine, when you cant maintain the speed you want too without revving the nuts off it!!

There is a too much big gap from 1st to 2nd gear from 3.5 to 1.9 2nd should have been 2.4 ! or 1st should have been slightly longer :crybaby:

i would like to find out if a turbo exhaust manifold from a daihatsu charade gtti or the scion would fit as it is too a 3cyl engine and could possibly be the base of the Aygo engine!

Trust me, he wasn’t trying and was probably teasing you...

If 'Barryboys' website see this thread (and some of the performance 'claims') they will have a 'field day'.

One wounders when those clear rear 'Lex-****' lights will be available from Halfords (as per the Corsa/Paxo crew  )

:lol::lol::lol:
