Sticky Celica Clutch

Hi,

First post here as I have just fulfilled an ambition and bought a real sports car.

I've finished trying to restore rusty MG's and bought a 1990 Celica GT.

I got it cheap off eBay,£300, as it is an almost finished project car.

It runs and is complete but it has a none working clutch.

It appears to be stuck on, presumably because it has stood for a number of years.

Would any members have any tips please as to how it could be freed, or would I have to dismantle to clutch to sort it.

As you were.

I've had my first sit in the car with the engine running and although the engine sounds fine the clutch pedal depresses and there is a rattle when the gears are engaged but no drive.

Further investigation is required. But has anyone any clues please?

thanks

john

Hi, welcome to TOC. When you say there`s a rattle when you select gear, does it actually go into gear and rattle when the clutch pedal is released? If so it sounds more like a g/box problem or the clutch has actually broken up. I think it`ll be a dismantling job. :(

my best guess is you should probably open the gear box and inspect the clutch and probably replace it since it has been sitting

but i also got rattle on my 6gc's gear box because i had 0 transmission fluid due to a wheel seal leak so that is sumthing you can check on without opening up the box!

cheers mate

Hi Daktari and thanks for the warm welcome.

The fault is exactly as you describe. The lever goes in as if in gear and the rattles start when the clutch is slowly released.

When trying all the gears the rattle is different , different speeds maybe and reverse sounds like it just needs a bit more to get it into gear, but it wont of course.

I suspect an exploded clutch, I hope so as that could be the cheapest option.

Looks like the transmission will have to come off to reveal all.

Thanks also playr158 I'll check the oil before I start but I think I will have to get my hands dirty.
