Cruise Control Not Working Properly

Got my new Avensis today. Cruise control was not standard and was fitted by the dealer.

It works, but not as good as it should.

When I engage the cruise control it controls like a jojo:

Lets say speed is 80 km/h.

Then it decreases to 78

Ooops. Too slow. Then it speeds up to 82.

Ooops. Too fast. Then it slows down to 78.

Ooops. Too slow. Speeding again. Too fast, too slow, repeating every 10 seconds or so.

Naturally I will complain about it first thing tomorrow morning, but how stable is these cruise controls anyway? +/- 1 km/h? Less? No speed variations at all?

It is of course an original Toyota cruise control (with less than average brain :) )

I tought these PID regulated controls where pretty accurate.

The good news? The car is great :)

We've just had a Pontiac Vibe on holiday in America which is basically the same as the Toyota Matrix and had the 1.8 VVTi, when on cruise it was terrible, always kicking down gears and holding on to them and playing all kinds of tricks, certainly nothing like we had experienced on our Camry's, the LS or Honda Accord we used to have.
