3rd Row Of Seats

Hi there -

I wonder if anyone has an anwer to this? I'd love a Rav 4 with 7 seats. I know that the new model on sale in the US comes with a 3rd row of seats as a Toyota option but it doesn't seem to be available in the UK.

Does anybody know if it is available - or if not, whether, it is possible to fit them subsequently?

Alternatively are there any good quality after market options available?

I seem to remember that the 7 seat version was actually longer.

I'll be corrected though as i'm probably wrong with my memory.

Correct Stuart, The North American RAV4 is much longer in length than the new European Spec RAV4's so you could not retro-fit the extra seats in a European Spec SWB RAV4 as it not designed for the extra seats.

About the only way you could get a LWB RAV4 in right-hand drive form is from Australia/New Zealand where in OZ and NZ they have the LWB RAV4 and fit the extra rear seats as in the OZ/NZ RAV4 it does not come with the extra row of seats but in theory could be added properly.

It's a totally crazy setup round the world as regards to the new RAV4 for the third generation RAV4. There are some market regions that have the LWB RAV4 but don't offer the extra row of seats. And there are some market regions that only offer the 2.4L (166hp) Engine with the LWB RAV4 like in Australia and Middle East but those poor folks don't get the V6 engine option Then there are RAV4 fans in North America that want manual gearbox option but can't and they also want the Diesel option in North America as well but can't. Then there are RAV4 fans in Europe that want the LWB RAV4 for extra seats and no doubt RAV4 Fans like me want the option of a V6 engine in a RAV4 but that is just not going to happen.

Martin I would just forget trying to get extra seats in the RAV4 plus I am pretty certain any insurance company would not cover you if added extra seats if you could add them. It is just not worth the bother and personally I would just forget about it or buy another SUV that offers 7 Seats(Like the new Hyundai Santa Fe and forthcoming Chevrolet Captiva, Mitsubishi Outlander and not doubt other SUV's). Yet again another missed opportunity by Toyota in Europe IMO.
