Boss Kits And Momo Steering Wheels

Recommended Posts

hello - any of you guys fitted a boss kit and aftermarket steering wheel to your hilux surf , my surf is a 1995 model and i'd be interested to know which boss kit i'd need

oh and no airbags

There are quite a few boss kits listed for the HiLux on eBay, most comming in at approx £25 plus £5 postage.

I will be doing my 2.4d when I get some cash.

Obviously they are'nt Momo or similar for that price!

Hi folks, I've been on the lookout for a new wheel for my 1990 Hilux pickup for a while now, would this boss be ok for my truck? I'd like to fit either of the following wheels...

Thanks

Rog

Momo boss kit is number 7715 (4runner, 90-96) , the 1 i listed is a copy of the 7715 and has been used by a few surfers no problems at all.

have you looked at those wheels at www.roughtrax.com

Good idea, I forgot about them, got my bullbar and sidesteps from them, anyway, is it fairly easy to remove your steering wheel?

yeah - simply leave the steering lock on , crack the nut loose after removing the horn cover , unscrew the nut but not fully, this saves you from a fractured skull when it finally comes free. pull and turn with the steering lock off it should finally pop off, a few hard slaps with a fisted hand will help also.

Its a pity that there isnt a wheel from another more sporty Toymota that would fit straight on without the need for a boss, say a Celica or Supra for example??

Cheers for the info GT4.

Ben, I know what you're saying, I thought the same, you woulda thought pop to your local breakers pickout a Celica, MR2, maybe a Supra :P and pull out the steering wheel, job done...

It would make perfectly good business sense for Toyota aswell to have common parts.

Is the 'Lux wheel larger diameter than a road going car's steering wheel?

Posted

13" seems a good size for the surf , stock is about 15" without measuring it.

I think smaller would be cool on the road though, I guess that the larger stock size is more for off-road action.

this pic taken from www.hiluxsurf.co.uk is a 13" wheel using the boss i linked to.

Cheers for the pic GT4. I think I'm gonna hold off buying one, as they are £150ish which is mad really when you consider my truck only cost me £800 to start with, I'll just keep an eye out down the breakers yard...

you can get some on eBay for 30 quids

I've been looking on eBay over the last week, and the decent looking Momo's still go for £70 upwards, which is still out of my reach, I'll hopefully get lucky down the breakers yard, they only charge a tenner for steering wheels...

There's plenty of cheap steering wheels on eBay.

Why do you need Momo? There are plenty of other brands / unbranded wheels that will do the job for a 1/3 the price

Posted

I don't need a momo, they are just two models I've seen that I like the style of, if there is something similar a lot cheaper, then great, any recommendations will be welcome :)

Mine came from Japland with a Momo fitted, it looks like a standard wheel but the actual wheel part is wooden (or at least fake wood), but it has no boss, it was made as a direct replacement for the OE wheel
