Hi all,

I would like to know all your times for 0-60mph and 1/4 mile..

Also could you please include what spec corolla you drive.. (ie. UK spec)

I am waiting on my OZ spec Corolla sportivo, and am confused by the different times that are claimed. Ranging from 7.2 - 8.4 0-60mph and anything from 15.3 and up for the 400m..

I have put it down to OZ spec models being slightley different from others.. ie. Wieght, fuel cut....

I have noticed people say the corolla is impossible to keep in "lift mode" This is not true with my test drive... I landed on 6k for 2nd and third... But noticed a slight "tourque hole" at 6k...

Posted

It's a very strange situation with landing in the lift after changing 1-2.

On this forum are only 2 people who claim can do it. Then, you 're the third one.

I talked to some CTS drivers in Poland, who also claimed can land in the lift every single gear. But when I asked them to video tape it, or just look close at the revs when changing 1->2 they suddenly started landing between 5800 - 6000 revs, which I think is true figure.

Posted

I can land in the lift from 1-2

and from 2-3

Well atleast i think i can.

Posted

2->3 is no problem.

Take a close look when changing 1->2. Im sure it's gonna be max 6000.

However, if your CTS lands in the lift (6200) when shifting 1-2, please tape it for me, as I'd like to show it to my toyota dealer, and ask him to do something, so my car lands in the lift as well.

Posted

at the test drive of the cts i'm pretty sure we landed in lift 1st - 2nd :S

definitely 2nd - 3rd though

I agree with Imek i want a copy as well

Never landed in the lift 1-2 no probs 2-3 tho

I can land on 6k exactly.

Before I test drove the Corolla I knew all the hype about landing in the power band, and how people say it's really hard blah blah blah. So when I had the opportunity to thrash one that wasn't mine, I thought... hhmmm.. Nows the time to see if what they say is true.

Here were my conditions:

Car:

5 door corolla sportivo (CTS) 1224kg

235kms on the clock

premium grade fuel

Weather / temp:

Clear day

14 degrees celcius

No wind

Road:

tarmac

As you can read, ideal conditions.

When I shift from 1st - 2nd I usually bogg down to 5,5k... But If change real quick, and hold more revs I can land directly on 6 grand. This is where I noticed a huge torque hole, The car would hit 6k and slow, then launch.. It's wierd, i dont know why it doesn't flow its power better. I just think cause the car is tight and almost new, the hi-cam or Solenoid needs to wear in alot more, cause it's just before Lift..

But yes, i can get it to land on 6k.. I will tape it when my car arrives. I am a digital video editor, so when i tape it you guys will know.

Cheers....

What is your fuel cut??

mine is 8350rpm fuel cut...

I hear some corollas are 8200rpm

2zzge sportivo...

how did you make the fuel cut at 8350rpm???

how did you make the fuel cut at 8350rpm?

The rev limiter kicks in so the internals dont start melting

Cool. Actually, I went out last night and made my own home movie ;)

I've got a 950K avi file from one of these cheesy solid state digital

cameras which I stuck on the dashboard pointing at the rev counter.

I'm going to try and get some time later to turn it into an mpeg movie

which hopefully will be small enough to upload to this forum. You are

welcome to mail me if you want a copy of the raw video clip.

Anyway, short summary: dry conditions, one 73kg occupant, 3/4 tank

of 95 ron unleaded fuel, air con turned off ... :)

This is a UK factory spec. car with no mods.

0.0 sec foot off clutch 7650 rpm

1.1 sec clutch fully engaged 4750 rpm

3.4 sec 1st gear peak revs 8200 rpm

4.4 sec 2nd gear clutch fully engaged 6200 rpm

7.0 sec 2nd gear peak revs 8200 rpm

I've taken the times by counting the frames on the video. The

camera is supposed to have a framerate of 10fps. I need to check

to see if it is exactly this. On my car the limiter is approximately 8200

rpm, could be a bit higher, though. It's a bit hard to say for sure as

there are no ticks in the red zone. The speedo reads nearly 65mph at

the rev limit in second gear.

It's clear that on the change to second gear, the revs never drop

below 6200 rpm. It's also the case that there is no torque

hole---the revs pick up very quickly once the clutch is fully

engaged.

Cheers

Paul.

Thanx guys.

Waiting for the video.

Yea , that's right !

The "old" CTS goes up to ~8400rpm (some say up to 8700 ??? don't believe?!?!)

The "new" CTS of the last productions (such as mine) has the limiter at 8200! Good for the engine but bad for the joy :D

Posted

So if they limit @ 8400 then maybe they could hit the lift in 2nd gear

Mine limits @ 8200 and lands at about 6000 as i change into 2nd

Posted

All I have to say is I know what I have done, and what my CTS will do, I didn't do it to have to prove it to anyone I did it just for the hell of it coz I have a car that can do it, I did for the sheer fun of doing it, and have managed to do it several times, not every time, as the gear change has to be really slick, but ince you get 1st - 2nd nailed then the fun really starts when you keep going to 5th in the power band all the way, as i said before you gotta be slick on the change, only person I was looking to impress by doing this was me and believe me I'm very impressed. :P

Long time no see, Jake!

How was your holiday? Any new mods coming?

Posted

Righty, I've prepared a short mpeg movie. It's a bit dark I'm afraid as

I shot this at night with the instruments dimmed. What you get is the

car at rest with me revving to 7600 or so then letting the foot off the

clutch, going to the limit in first gear then changing to second and

hitting the limit in second.

Watch the needle when second gear is fully engaged

Cheers

Paul.

From 1 to 2 I've landed to 6300rpm, from 2 to 3 I've landed to 6000( sometimes 6050rpm) ,and from 3 to 4 like 5700rpm or something...

It's TRUE!!!
