Has anyone tried using K&N air filters in a Landcruiser TD, and if so, any good?

stick to oem. They are good enough. You don't want to mess your engine up.

i will be buying a kn panel filter soon . its 6 quid a throw every 4000 miles service , thats 24k and the kn filter has paid for itself.

dont go for induction , stick to stock airbox and add the kn filter to that.

Cheers. Fitted my K&N filter this afternoon (non induction one, just a replacement filter) and i did notice a difference. i was impressed. Only nag is when accellarating hard, i can hear a load wooshing noise.

Im assuming thats normal, ie its the air being sucked in a whistling. Does that sound plausible?

I think that you will find thats the main reason that most boy-racers fit induction kits onto their cars-the noise

I have a cold air induction kit on my Prelude, sounds great when the vtec cuts in B)

Trouble is they only give gains in the upper rev-range which is great on a Honda rev monster not quite so desirable on a torquey 4x4

induction aint all that good when its sucking in alot of hot air from engines and turbos either . hot air is less dence and contains less oxygen . stock airbox drilled at the bottom with a kn panel filter will give as good if not better results - noise and power

Hence why I got a cold air intake that lives in the wing out of the hot engine bay :)

Fit a short snorkel ....... It'll be a funny shaped ram air!

K&N are useless on a 4wd if its being used offroad .They are freer flowing because they have less filtration.

Ok for race car owners who rebuild an engine 3 times a year but not so smart for turbo diesel owners who want 400000 klms out of an engine.

The landcruiser has that big bulky airfilter cylinder because it needs it to protect the filter from flying debris when off road.

It also traps the larger particles such as bugs and leaves them in the bottom, not plastered all over the filter

Here is a test which proves it if you take the time to read it

I bet most Australians save the bugs to eat aswell :)
