Warm Start Difficulty

My son owns a 1989 corolla 5 door hatchback. Starts well locally and is reliable.

However, on a long journey e.g. Swansea to Manchester, the car will not restart after being shut down for a short period. It has happened a number of times, the most recently being yesterday.

After leaving it for a couple of hours it started on the third attempt.

The car is non fuel injected with carburator.

Have tried throttle position as per owners manual but no joy.

Any suggestions would be gratefully appreciated.

you should check if it's a fuel or ignition problem next time it happens.
