i have a starlet EP82 i typed in the reg plate when gettin online insurance quotes and the car has come up as a starlet 1.3 GLI is that rite or has something messed up??? the insurance premium came up as £1600 for me being 19 years old and droped to £1200 with my 1st year of no claims which i had the other day. is this normal or should it say GT?

If you have the GT Turbo then yes it should read GT or Turbo, you have a quote based on a 1.3 with only 80bhp (ish) against your 135bhp?

Has it happened on other insurance sites or just one in particular?

it probably means the car has been mis-registered.

If its a turbo, then get insurance for a turbo or GT not GLi as you could regret it if you had to make a claim

on every web insurance its up as a GLI

Did you get the car HPI checked when you bought it?

Could quite easily look like an GT Turbo but actually be a 1.3 GLI. The insurance companies will have the details of the car when it was registered and if they have it as a GLI its more than likely a GLI and not an GT.

Ive had the same issue when getting quotes on import Celica GT4s, some companies bring the cars back as Cabriolets, GTs, all types of Celica but the GT4

If the car definately is a GT make sure you select that its a GT and you should be fine

There could be a number of reasons why it comes up wrong.

My Yaris T Sport used to come up correctly, then the log book was lost and when I applied for a new one it came back saying it was a T Spirit??

Contacted the DVLA and they couldn’t work out what had gone wrong but sent me a correct one out with it down as a T Sport, ever since then on web sites etc where you search on Reg no. it comes back as a T Spirit and I have to manually change it to a T Sport.

I have an hpi cert from a check that I did when I bought the car saying it’s a T Sport, and I know the dealership it was supplied from as new and there is nothing dodgy about it -as far as I am concerned anyway.

Make sure you manually change the model to the correct one when getting quotes though, or you’re definitely going to have invalid insurance.
