Hi, my name is Howard and I'm new to the forums after finding you guys on a google search. I have had a Hilux Surf for a year now, and other than my recent problems, it has been really great. I do some offroading at an airsoft site that I run, but am thinking of moving further afield to meet other owners.

Still, back on topic.

A week ago, my car overheated and pressure blew out the front of my radiator. A mechanic came to look at it and he said it was "hydraulicing" and that my pistons were full of water (After the RAC had towed me home)

After lots of investigating, I sent my car up to Nippon Car spares in London, and they fitted another engine, new radiator and collected and delivered the car for £1300.

When it came back to me the turbo was working fine, but two days later it seems to have died. I have no power (I had to pull a trailer for 40 miles at 40 mph most of the way) and the dashboard turbo light isnt coming on except when the light check comes on during the ignition sequence, so I know it's not the bulb. I pulled the air intake hose off the front of the turbine unit, and when I started the car the blades are spinnng and don't seem jammed at all. I have also taken off the covers that go over the turbo unit, and I can see some kind of diaphram looking part under it that is bolted to the front by two bolts. When I remove these this rod that goes into the back moves in and out of it quite freely and I auume this is some form of dump valve. Here ends what I think I can do with my car as I am not a mechanic.

Has anyone else experienced a problem like this? How does the Turbo light come on?? Is it from some form of pressure build up in the turbo? Does the diaphram operate something else, or does something operate the diaphram? Any help that anyone could give me would be really cool.

Howard
