i have a rev1 mk2 mr2 an have a problem with the car,my second car,its great fun to drive a fast little jap sports car-far cry from my first one a renault laguna...what problem i have is my car seems to splutter an try to stall when held at any amount of revs up to 3000 when stationary, not a prob when your drivin so much.when held at say 2500 for a couple of minutes the rpm takes asudden drop for a short few seconds then will move back to where the exsisting rpm was held at..but if you let it run then as the rpm goes to drop release the accelerator for a split second then push it again its back up....any thoughts please ???????????? very lost  ,a friend has mentioned some thing about tracks but i have no idea what he means.thought french cars were hard to work with, mind i had a haynes manual for that.cheers people, thanks for taking the time to read this

Just changed the title of your post too as it was refering to the wrong MK of MR2. Hopefully this way you'll also get a few more responses

Just re-read your post.

When was the car last serviced?

It sounds like you could have 2 or more minor faults.

1stly, with the rev's climbing and dropping, it's very likely to be your cooling system with either air in it or not retaining pressure.

With regards to your splutter, it could be anything from bad fueling (blockage somewhere) to overfueling to incorrectly set up sensors.
