Car Stalls After Freeway Speeds

Toyota Starlet 4KE

Just finished putting in the cylinder head and clutch on the starlet. Driving it around town to break it in. Took it on the freeway and runs great. Exited the freeway and it idled very low and stalled. Started back up and drove. Stopped at a stop sign and stalled again.

I raised the idle to 900 and it fixed it for a little while. Now its trying to stall again after exiting freeways.

this morning, i drove around town (stop and go) and it wouldnt stall. My problem seems to be only AFTER freeway speeds and for the next few minutes driving stop and go after exiting the freeway.

Temperature guage reads very cold (low) on freeway speeds but reaches normal operating temperature during stop and go city driving. I don’t know if this is related to my stalling problem.

anyone experience this and find out what the prob is?

thanks.

tempature gauge should be the same if on the freeway or around town

sounds like your thermostat is open all the time. Need to close slightly on freeway speeds to keep a regular temprature.

not sure if this is the problem though!

My Last car used to do that - It was a petrol problem - running slightly to weak. It drove lovely on the motorway but as soon as I came off it glided to a holt then would start up no problem. It was fine around town stoping and starting.
