Just got off the motorway today and was waiting in a load of traffic at a roundabout and stalled my Aygo from a hill start (I know, I know schoolboy error!)

I turned the ignition totally off and then started the car and it was ok until I moved about 5 yards and felt the whole car shaking (engine in particular), I pressed on the clutch to and brake and came to a stop and before I knew it the engine cut out completely.

Luckily the traffic had barely moved so I stopped and turned everyting off (radio, Air con etc). Then started again. The Aygo was ok after that but I did rev the engine a couple of times when I stopped just to check everything 'sounded' ok.

Quite worrying, anyone any ideas?

Should I take the car to Toyota for a check?

Thats what the warranty is for.......................maybe just a glitch but the engine management system would have recorded any problem...so best get it checked out

I had a similar incident about a month ago.

I started the car on the drive and it ran for about 3 seconds and then just died before I had even started to move off.

It started again fine straight away and it hasn't done it before or after and I have covered nearly 8000 miles. I put it down to a bit of a glitch but I will mention it in a few weeks when it goes into Mr T for first service.

Mine had a bit of a splutter a couple of months ago too, not done it again since, put it down to dodgy petrol as mine gets filled up when convenient.

Well mine gets Optimax every time - never had anything else apart from whatever rubbish the dealer filled it with pre delivery when brand new.

Hope this isn't a recurring theme - any other Aygo owners had similar incidents ?

Its re-assuring that others had a problem and its not happened since - drove it a fair way again today and no problems at all.

As mentioned before it might have been a glitch, I actually do recall a simialr incident when I had a Focus.

I'll take into the Toyota garage soon just to check

I have seen another tread in this forum discussing the same problem. Most likley cause is either dirty injectors or slightly sticking valves. This is caused by residue that occurrs in some low sulphur petrol, and I know that the other mulitvalve engines such as Rover K-series engine can suffer from this kind of problem.

The solution to this problem on Rover engines was quite simple:- One shot of redex every 6000 miles or so and a nice hard drive. Using Optimax and going for a hard drive should also give similar result.

I don't want to appear as if I'm jumping on the band wagon but I did have a similair problem at around 2K miles.

Sitting at a junction after coming off the A1, clutch in, the revs just faded to nothing, cutting out the engine. This happened for about 3 miles with me having to keep the revs up manually (as if there were no idle revs to keep it from cutting out)

I always use BP Ultimate and drive pretty hard so I'm not sure about the dirty injectors (Although I agree that in some cases that can cause similair symptoms)

I've never had the problem since and so never mentioned it to Mr.T.

Interesting that others have had this 'glitch'
