Inductions Kits

I'm thinking of buying an induction kit for my 1.6 T3, but was just after some advice really...I've already got a Remus backbox on it, which adds a bit of a grunt, but wouldn't mind a bit more...plus I want it for performance purposes also....what I don't what however is to make the car sound like a chavmobile....so how much noise would a kit add, and can anyone suggest which one to go for? Cheers.

From what i heard, an induction kit will make your ride sound "chavvy" no offence.

if you want performance, get a panel filter ..

if you want sound, get a cone ..

a normal panel filter would give you a few bhp ish .. a cone can lose you power as it'll suck in hot air.

if you put it on the exhaust yes  but if you put the cone in the right place where it will get more cool air you will gain more than the pannel filter!:yes::yes:

Cheers for the advice guys. I've gone for a BMC panel filter as I think this'll be the most beneficial. I'll get some performance gain and a small increase in induction noise with this, but decided against a full kit as I don't want my car to sound like a chavmobile. Will report back once it's arrived and I've fitted it.

if i were you, i would het a panel filter from K&N

the 3ZZ-FE engines do not respond wel to CAIs!! you will not gain any bhp, but you will lose a lot!! the only thing you wil gain with a CAI, is a lot of noise (the only thing you do not want... )

when you guys talk about a panel filter, do you mean just a new filter to drop in the original filter box, or a whole new box and filter?

Would seem to be alot cheaper to just go for that option, though the pipe from the box to the engine would still be just as restricted.

i thought that they meant a new sports filter (like the one from K&N, very good one by the way) when they said a panel filter...and with a cone i think they mean a CAI...

but i could be very wrong also, because my english is very

by the way Ian S., what do you think of the BMC filters??? are they any good? how does your engine respond? is there a (slight probably) increase in bhp?

grts

does anyone know if the Gen II kit is much better than the 57i kit?

it seems over twice the price, and I wouldn't have thought it was that much better!

also, > bert.tsport, how noisy is that thing?

Gen2s have a heat shield so they would not be affected that much by the generated heat.

As per noise, they do roar :)

foot to the floor... it growls.

but, i can also drive and not hear it too much.. 2500rpm and below.

its a nice sound in my ears... :D

well £100 for a heat shield sounds a little excessive to me. shouldn't be too hard to make something like that! :help:

But bert.tsport, i think you've sold it for me. a nice bit of vroom does go a long way! maybe its just the chav in me trying to get out!

Any induction kit which is left open in the engine bay will suck HUGE ammounts of your engine heat and slow your car down!

Under your bonnet is a LOT of HEAT, its got to go somewhere, so normally tiny bits get into your standard system and the rest just seeps through your bonnet, but when youve got a POWERFULL suck in there, itll all go straight into there reducing power

panels i agree are best if you want power gains that is.

Ive got an enclosed Ractive induction kit with a pipe leading to the front with no place for hot air to get in and even when the engine bay is BOILING the pipe i got doesnt get hot for some weird reason

thx gti-racing, what sort of price are we talking about here, is this a universal piece of kit? where did you get it from?

I had a Induction kit on my celica for a few months before i swapped it for a TRD panel filter . Although the cone made a lot of noise i noticed a few flat spots while accelerating and the car seemed a bit sluggish . The panel filter has not really affected the sound but it made a noticable difference while accelerating and seemed to kill the flatspots !

Go panel filter !

As long as you have the cone in the right place where plenty of cold air can get to it, you should see a good throttle response, however any cones going to give you more noise, like the others said the panel filter will be less noise, then again i dont see what the problem is with the noise thing, i like the sound my induction kit gives, it would make you look chavy if you were a chav in the first place lol

Only one question for you...

where did your Battery go?

after looking at this engine layout, it seems such a good idea to put the air intake there instead! unless of course you just got rid of it  push starts and all.

It's still on order at the moment....should hopefully be arriving Friday, so once I've fitted it I'll let you know mate. I went for BMC rather than Pipercross or K&N as someone I know has one fitted on his Civic and says the results are better than the Pipercross he had previously on his car. I'm looking forward to getting it fitted now, should hopefully have some good news to report back!

Bert, how loud does your K&N make your car? I do love a crisp induction roar....just don't want to draw too much attention to my car and from what I've read panel filter delivers better throttle response, otherwise I'd have definitely gone for an induction kit! :)

Battery is moved to the boot. Gives me the option of taking the headlight out for a little extra air, shall be doing so for USC this year :)

if u unclip the top of your air filter move it to one side and shut the bonnet,

take the two plastic clips with u so u dont lose them,

start up you car and take it for a drive. if u hold the revs whilst driving the car u will notice a sound difference and an induction kit would sound pretty much the same as this.
