When Is My Car Service Due (& Other Issues)

Hello,

I have some minor queries:

1. I have a second-owner 04 avensis t3-x 2.0 and was wondering when my 20K service is due.

Pre-delivery (when new) check date was 30/6/04 (I dont have v5 document to hand, but assume would be first registered with DVLA around this date too).

Had 10K service on (at 10000 miles) on 09/04/05

Mileage now is 16.5 K miles

I was at a toyota dealer for some other reason a few months back and was told my service would be due in april 2006. However, '20k or 2 years whichever is sooner' should be end June 2006 (2yrs since delivery), and not simply one year after the 10K service (which was done before 1 year)?

2. The gearstick when in fifth gear, at motorway speeds vibrates, more so when pressing accelerator. Vibrates when hand on stick, not visually. I am talking about vibration that is noticeable compared to other gears or another car and therefore 'not usual'. The stick has not as yet come out of gear by itself.

While this issue is something that has been noted in other topics, when does this constitute a 'fault' needing remedy and when is it 'just normal'. I.e. is any significant vibration at all a prelude to gearbox failure.

3. I find it difficult to get 'real' acceleration from a standing start, even with keeping revs up and lifting clutch quickly (but not so quickly as to induce stalling of course). It only accelerates properly when it is 'good and ready' a second or two later. Is this just the way this car these cars are?

4. Best option for getting a sat-nav installed to a t3-x ?

Bye.

Service: Take your dealers advice and have it done when they say. You can always put your points to them. Any come backs will not be on you if you had the car serviced at the time they specified.

Your car sounds like it needs a service and you need to report all the faults to get an assessment of what is wrong. The vibration is not normal I do not get it on my Avensis. I also have good acceleration no delay at all,

Best option for SAT / NAV. Get TOM TOM. It can be used in any car and updates are on the web. Toyota SAT/NAV disc updates are expensive. TOM TOM is more accurate generally.

You could get the opinion of a good local mobile mechanic. My wife's Carina (L plate) is serviced and maintained by a very good local chap. He uses genuine parts and does all the servicing and repairs. I have my Avensis serviced by the dealer for warranty reasons. Hope this helps. Chris.

I would say a year on from the 09/04 going on when your 10k service was done. I have a pre-reg Yaris Blue, it was registered at the end of Jan and sat on their forecourt until March when I got it in 2005. It got to 10k exactly a year on from March so in for a service it goes and to cut a long story short they got a bit funny about it with me as it goes on from a year from the first registration date (obviously the 20k one would be two years on from that date or if you get to 20k on the clock first), whatever is sooner.

Can't help on the other things, sorry.

Thanks for the helpful advice.

TOM-TOM probably what I will get if I get sat-nav.
