cheers dak

like i said i took my car to a garage to get a diagnostic check done...

he did it i paid him...gave me the number of the fault code....

then he phoned toyota...who said that my car does not have one of them ( the part which eh diagnosed as having a fault)

which means i paid 40 quid for jack :censor: S^%T

he hasnt actually diagnosed the problem as such then ...but then tells me take it to the dealer....

wat can i do? :censor: :censor:

Why didn't you just do the diagnostic check yourself??

Do a search on here and you will find instructions, follow them to bridge across the terminals with a paper clip.

Work out the numbers and post them back here - then fingers crossed someone will be able to tell you what is up with your motor

According to my Chilton manual, Code 12 is something to do with the magntic pick up in the distributor.

yes sounds like something in this area.....because the revs do sumtimes go a litttle hyper and the car fails to start.....i dnt think its the starter motor as it is turning... just not starting

so wat do u guys reccommend i do?

obviously i want to get it fixed but i dont want to really go to a dealer...as im certain they will make me do another diagnostics check which costs about a 100 quid

any advice will eb appreciated

thanks guyz

After a prolonged search of the Chilton manual (Who wrote those !Removed! things :ffs: ) It says to replace distributor. :(

Best bet is to ask if anyone is breaking one or has a spare that you can swap to see if that cures it. Might be as well to try the Celica club as well. If all else fails i would suggest trying TCB.

Unless someone else knows another fix ???????

It looks like the thing bolted to the top right hand side of the engine as you look at it. 5 HT leads attached to the cap. Remove the cap and your left with the distributor body. This unbolts from the cylinder head. Make sure you make a note of where the contact tip of the rotor arm is pointing in relation to the cap. Not a good idea to try turning the engine over with the distributor removed. When you replace it you will have to check the ignition timing of the engine. If you don`t know how get someone who does.

In theory it should only take a few minutes to swap the distributor over and not much longer to check and adjust timing. So it might be a good idea to let a garage do it for you.

No idea how much a S/H one would be but a new one will be

it may be any of the things i listed. its a case of ellimination .be sure to mark where the dizzy was before you remove it though. mark it and the cylinder head where it touches..
