How come we have a discussion about the Mk2 Yaris and the "Phase 1 is better" always seems to pop up....

Get over yourselves, we aint talking about P1's!!:lol:

I've seen a few Mk2's around and about Leics, I pass a Vivid Blue one almost everyday on the way to work, the uptake on any brand new model will be slow (although saying that, I see new Clios all over the place!) and with the likes of the brand new Clio, which is meant to be one of the best small cars in the market right now and the new Grande Punto, which is miles better than the Punto it replaces, of course the Yaris will find it hard - people have so much choice and as has been said, its more expensive than those cars.....

But the lifespan of most cars, as Ben said, is 5-ish years, thats when they think about replacing them.... unless its the Ford Ka, which lives forever.... but to fob it off after only a very short space of time on sale.... they just wouldnt do that. Look at how many Yaris owners are on this site, I'd say more than any other make of Toyota - the Yaris is one of Toyotas more popular cars, they would not get rid of the name (not yet anyway) and definitely not get rid of the car.... ;)

people who keep banging on aboutthe financial cost of killing a car after only a short period of time are forgeting the the mk2 has been out fdor nearly 2.5 years now as the mk2 vitz 5 door has been on sale in japan since the beginning of 2005 ;) so its not such a short period of time to kill it, and its very likely that they'd still continue top sell the yaris in the us and the vitz in japan since the aygo is not on sale over there and the the mk2 doesnt really fit into the uk car categories since its is much larger than other cars and the aygo isnt much smalkler than the mk1 yaris

My contact say's it will be around for at least the next 5 years

The new GS hybrid is to be launched soon followed by the facelift Avensis and then the new LS, thats all for 2006 :(

TBH Toyota aren't really in the market for making mistakes, and ditching the Yaris would be a huge one! I agree though, people who works at dealers don't work for Mr T, they work for a franchise which carries the Toyota brand, such as RRG, Falmer and Carlisle, Smith Knight Fay etc. So it is reasonable to assume that they are sometimes misinformed, maybe even by the competition?

Its like when some Mr T dealership's parts departments can't tell their elbow from their ****, let alone get a Toyota part in for you which they claim does not exist, even though you quote the official part number, yet you can go down the road to the same brand dealership and get the parts ordered with no hassle... Or maybe that's just because the 1st place can't be ubik'd...

Hmm, unlike Toyota to get rid of a "brand" of car that sells well ..

*cough* MR2 *cough*, *cough* Celica *cough*, *cough* Supra *cough* ..

Sorry seem to have got a bit of a throat tickle ..

Yes, Toyota are "family friendly" now....

means nothing over a 1.6 and no nasty emissions that'll make children cough....

Or in the Yaris' case, nothing over a 1.3.... I'm not bitter..... honest!

Ideal lineup?

I think the ad I've got for Toyota with the Mk4 Supra, MR2 T-Bar, Gen6 Celica GT4 and Gen6 Celica convertable .. THAT'S ideal ..

Then you have via import, MR2 Turbo's, Turbo'ed Galanza's, AeroTop Supras ..

I can't see a market for the Aygo, Yaris and Corolla. Unless the Corolla gets a whole lot bigger and the Avensis becomes a huge saloon.

Do you know what, if they'd have brought this out with the others I would probably have one by now.... but tbh I'm bored of the speculation, bored of the waiting...

I'd much rather go out tomorrow and buy a Celica with a Celica engine..... at least I know I can definitely get one of those!!
