Elelctrics Have Just Gone Down Right Before Mot Help!

Hi,

Just had all the electrics on my 94 Celica go down. It ran through the test sequence once before turning off. Now nothing when you turn the key. Have checked fuses and they all seem fine (unless I missed some) The only thing I have done recently is replace the Battery.

There is a strange ticking sound sometimes (like a realay working) when you sit in and all doors are closed comming from the drivers side, which stops for a moment when you press on the horn or pedal, but other than that I am a bit stuck how to reset the problem. Anyone have any clues?

Thanks

Could be that the Battery has dropped down past a high enough charge level? Have you tested the Battery? You could try jump starting to see if the electrics come on. - I know you replaced the Battery but it could have been duff?

Other than that check all the fuses in the car and under the bonnet:

Hi,

Thanks for that. No the Battery is perfect, almost seems like its too strong and may have caused the problem. Have checked the fuses in both areas and all are fine. Not sure how to run through checks for this problem really. Nothing comes on at all, not even the door light. I can hear a relay ticking though at some times.

Have you checked the Battery with the Multimeter? Car stuff isnt too sensitive so you should be alright up to about 15 volts. The Alternator kicks out atleast 14 volts anyway.

I cant quite remember where it was but I seem to remember there being a relay as part of the regulator curcuit and normally if voltage drops below a certain level it wont flick over and therefore you get no power, but I cant remember exactly what it was for. So if your Battery is fine I can only guess that your relay has died, try to find the source of the clicking and examine the relay. You should be able to get a replacement relay for a couple of quid so it should be worth a try

Hi

Thanks for that. Will really test the Battery tonight. The relay seems to be clicking from the drivers footwell which is hard to get to with the doors closed so that it does click. Will try and hunt it down after checking the Battery.

cheers
