Hello all.

Just signed up and wanted to say hi.

I don't yet own an Aygo, but I'm seriously considering buying one, so any advice, or views would be much appreciated.

I'm looking to buy a Sport model with "Hide" and Aircon, hoping to test drive one at the weekend. What sort of discounts are the dealers offering at the moment?

I currently drive a Fiesta ST, but I'm trying to buy a house, so I need something a little cheaper to own and run. Obviously, I'll miss the performance of the Fiesta (2 litre), but I'm hoping the Aygo is fun to drive.

Jason.

Welcome to the forum from another newbie

I've had a good look around this forum and related links and it really is quite informative if a little quiet at times. Good bunch of people though including some from Europe. Related sites for the 107 and C1 can also help as they have parts that can fit.

I'm waiting on my wife's Red Sport due on 17 May. What surprised me was that the suspension is quite firm (good) and the performance is reasonable too as the car is so light. I'm comparing this with my wife's Beetle - basically heavy and has 115bhp - the Aygo was similar in performance even though you need to rev it a bit more. I drive a modified S3 so that's obviously no comparison. Otherwise the Aygo is typical Japanese in many ways - all controls are light and easy to use but I think you will notice that it is a class down even from the Fiesta as the ST will have some more equipment and refinements. I didn't go for Air Con as the little engine has enough to cope with turning the wheels without putting it under any more stress - I'm getting tints put on instead. Didn't want to wait for 3 months on the hide either and for £500 you are getting leather "faced" seats with alcantara, not full leather and the seat backs will probably be vinyl. Personally I'll get Traceys custom done later when more funds and time allow as this is what we did with her Beetle making it unique and with much better quality leather.

Price: spec one up on the aygo website and then you can maybe take of £300 to £400 from that price if no trade in. I actually found my local dealer cheaper than the Internet suppliers such as Jam Jar. I'm getting a red sport with no option except carpet mats and tank of petrol for £7500 on the road - no trade in.

Hope this helps

Thanks guys,

Didn't realise I would have to wait 3 months for the hide seats. Need it quicker than that, so re-trimming at a later date sounds like a good idea. Still gonna go for the aircon though, it'll only get used when sitting in traffic, so power loss isn't a problem.

I might investigate the TTE lowering springs. If any of you have them does it improve handling? How badly does it ruin the ride comfort?

I've got a test-drive booked for Saturday so I'll let you know how it goes.

Hey

I've had my Aygo for about 5 weeks now! Love it, its a great little car, holds 4 ppl well, including my mate who about 6'2 and about 18 st. The fuel economy is brilliant, as well as the price for tax. My insurance is still quite high, but im only 19 so hopefully it will drop! Anyway, buy an Aygo, you wont regret it!

Air con - no loss of power that I've noticed and will certainly help resale so I would go for it every time. Not a fan of leather in a car like Aygo - just looks out of place to me.

I've got TTE springs - firms things up and makes it better in corners and gives the drop so looks better, ride is a bit harsh (it's firm anyway as stock) - that doesn't worry me and you get used to it.

yes go for it mate you wont regret it! as for the springs if you are not taking corners at more than 70mph leave the standard ones as they are pretty good at their job!

I agree if you try to make it have a sort of luxury look but a small sporty looking car like the Aygo would look great with a sporty leather (and maybe alcantara) interior. Aftermarket leather is thicker and does not crack like factory leather, therefore it keeps it's looks for much longer. Also easy to keep clean so the car looks immaculate inside for longer.

I've had mine 2 months now and i love it to bits! They aren't very common in Scotland and I love the fact that everyone turns to look at my car when I'm out!

Also extremely very cheap to run, fun and comfortable to drive. Looks tiny but it really does have plenty of space!

Righto, well I had my first look round and drive of an Aygo this afternoon.

What initially attracted me to the car is the looks, and I still think it looks good. Especially the 3 door.

I found the interior pretty roomy, although the boot is really tiny, but that's not really a problem.

I found I could get pretty comfortable in the car. The view out of the centre mirror is not too good though, and, as it was raining I also noticed that the rear wiper is a bit too small. Luckily the outside mirrors are big and make up for it.

Firing up the engine, i was surprised at how loud it sounded from inside. I do like the sound it makes though, very gruff. Pulling away. the first thing i noticed was the ultralight clutch and pretty sloppy gearchange. I found it quite difficult to judge where the biting point was.

Driving through urban roads the car picks up speed nicely and you can squeeze through small gaps with ease. There's quite a lot of grip - surprising considering the width of the tyres, but the car does seem to bounce around a bit, probably because of it's light weight. I would be interested to compare the difference with the TTE springs.

Moving onto a dual-carriageway I got a chance to give the engine a workout. Revving the engine out in 1st, then second and most of third, acceleration feels a little dissapoining, but I'm comparing it to my 2 litre Fiesta, and to be fair it reached 70 mph swiftly and cruising at that speed was easy. The engine is always there throbbing away, but I didn't have the stereo on to drown it out. It sounds really good when thrashing it.

I didn't get a chance to play with the Stereo apart from a quick listen to the radio. Sound was OK, if a little lacking in bass.

The Aygo reminds me a lot of my first car. A 1997 Fiat Cinquecento. Obviously the Aygo is better built, more modern, safer and better equipped, but the principle is still the same-low cost, ligtweight, willing engine. Small on the outside but roomy interior. No rocketship, but fun to drive.

Back in the showroom I went through all the options and finance available. Delivery times for a Silver 3 door Sport with aircon are only about 2 weeks. I could only negotiate free metallic paint, which isn't too bad.

Am i going to buy one? Probably - I need to release the capital in my current car and I need the cheap running costs. Will I regret it? I don't think so. It's a nice car. Will I miss the Fiesta? Absolutely.

Just use it as Bass-Box :afro:

The asking price for my 5 door Sport (with some extras) was 9145 - ordered early April 2006. I asked the dealer to knock some money off but he asked me what I was prepared to pay. I offered 8800. He offered 8875. Done.

Excellent.

May I ask if you got a discount.

How much was the servicing plan?

I haven't got an Aygo yet but I phoned the dealer for servicing costs. I was a bit shocked in that it needed sewrvicing every 10k miles. First service £130, second £180 (if I remember correctly). My mkV Golf didn't need first service until 18k miles and that was £135.

Its usually standard issue for 10,000 or yearly which ever occurs first. But with the service plan you pay in a lump sum I think so its cheaper but you have to pay all at once.

Not sure of the exact breakdown of costs, but I'm paying £8505

The Aygo Car configurator puts it at 8862.56, but I think they might be giving you the 3 years servicing free at the moment, which normally costs around £280.
