Anyone Kind Enough To Dig Out A Newbie?

Hi all,

Could any of you serious petrolheads out there dig out a newbie seriously consiering buying a Celica?

I would like some info on the performance spec differences (e.g. BHP etc.) between the GT and GT4 and GT4 turbo models....I'm currently driving a Carina and am considering buying a Celica but am unsure about the spec. of each car...then there is the Celica SS-II...I just don't know enough to buy with confidence from a second hand/private seller and there are so many versions of this car out thewre I'm totally at a loss to know what I want.

Is it possible anyone could post or email me a spec. sheet for each of the following models...GT, GT4, GT4 Turbo and the SS-II....so I can compare the body/style and performance differences that may be involved.

I reckon I'm after a GT4 in or around 1996 but were these made in this year...I dunno.

If any of you at all out there could enlighten me I would be very grateful.

Thanking you

John Kearns :help:

The options are ST, GT and GT4 for the Gen 6 Celica.

the ST is pony, 140bhp .. the GT is 175bhp .. the GT4 is a turbo, 255bhp and 4wd.

The SS2 is the same as the GT.

The SS3 is the same as the GT, but with VVTi, which added 25bhp.

There has been PLENTY of posts about this .. have a little search ..

Unfortunatley the ST is even worse than 140 - It's only got 118bhp :(

The Jap Version of the ST is the SS1 (which some dealer still call GT over here as it has a 2litre engine) Can't remember the exact figure for the SS1 but I think it was 150ish BHP??? Generally the Import Versions are Slightly higher BHP than the UK Versions but they do require you to run on Optimax or Equivilant Higher RON Fuel - ideally you need 100 RON

Yeah i have the 2.0 3sfe ss1 - its about 138 i think ! not exactly setting the roads on fire but with a few mods i reckon it improves quite a bit ! I was sold it as a GT and it does say GT on the paperwork .

I was told Toyota realised after they made it 138bhp was not enough and after that batch they raised it to 180 mark ? unsure !
