Had a bit of a nasty accident at the weekend.

Was on the way home with misses in the passenger seat so taking my time, about 1 minute from home come up on a big round about up the road from my house. You know one of them 30 meter wide big jobbies, roads were greasy coz it was that crappy drissely rain that had been falling all afternoon so slowed right down coming up to the roundabout. No one coming so carry onto the roundabout, go to change direction to go round like you do when the back end just kicked out no warning at all, tried to catch it but ended up on the grass going sideways into a lamp post. :crybaby:

Cars a complete write off, can't beleive the amount of damage that was caused. Lamp post hit front of passenger door. The whole chassy is bent.

Luckily we've both come out with only bumps and bruises but I can't help thinking that if I hadn't slowed down that little bit extra it could have been a different story.

Roundabout also leads to an industrial estate, my guess is that there must have been grease or desiel on the road or something, one of the neighbours apparently spun on the bit from what he said he was going slightly faster and ended up facing the wrong way instead of hitting the grass.

!Removed! hell mate. Seriously gutted for you. So long as you and the missus are ok then thats all that really matters. Cars can be replaced, Still a !Removed! shame though. Don`t let the insurance vultures rip you off. :(

Edit: Bit of an afterthought. But you ought to see if anyone reported a diesel spill to the police. Not that it would do much good. But it would explain it.

:( Gutted to hear that mate, your 4 was one of the cleanest i've seen

Make sure you get the value your happy with from the insurance

Had some bad news in mine today, after 4 days of ownership, it cut-out in traffic, cam-belt has been completely butchered by a bolt that has come loose from one of the covers and dropped in between the belt and the tensioner, of which only 1 bolt has been tightened properly after it had a new belt 2 weeks ago! Getting a new belt tomorrow, hoping and praying the valves are ok! :crybaby:

You going to look for another GT4?

damn!! sorry to hear about your crash ! I did basically the same thing in my prelude - back end slid then snapped......spun right into a lampost (knocked the thing half down)... As long as you guys walk away i guess the car can be replaced , shame to hear another 4 has died though :(

Tell me about it, i was absolutely gutted :(

Bought it privately, it has had a new belt like he said, but whoever has fitted has done a pretty poor job! :ffs:

I'm really hoping it hasnt caught the valves :!Removed!: I suppose i was also lucky i was sat in traffic at tick over and not at 6,000rpm on the boost! :!Removed!:

You should of let me have your car, as I loved it!!!! Sorry to see her go! Can I have the Bumper and Bonnet!!!!!!!

One thing - You said you slowed down but the back end went, If there was oil I would have thought you would of experienced understeer first rather than oversteer?!?!?!?!

Cheers for all the kind words, still just glad we're both ok espically the misses was very nearly a serious incident for her she was left with about 50cm between the incoming door and the transmission tunnel/center console for her legs. Police attended the accident and recon it was something on he road as well which is something I suppose.

The really annoying thing about it all is that we'd just put down a deposit on one for the misses which we should be picking up this weekend, which means I get to look at a Four that's not mine without having my own still... :( :ffs:

Waiting for the insurance to sort out then i'l be having a think about what's next, the misses has promised to let me drive hers so i'll still be driving one at least. Ideally I'd like to get another just got a feeling it's going to take quite a while to find another one in as good shape :( .

Funnily enough I quite liked it myself mate :( .

As for the over/understeer thing, I know what you saying but the way that the back end came out without warning or any form of encuragement from myself, must have been something there.

Recon it must be a bad time for cars at the moment, just be talking to a mate and the brand new oil pump in his cossie failed ruining a rather costly rebuild he'd just done. :crybaby:

Glad you and the missus are ok, that's the main thing.

Damp, greasy roundabouts :ffs: And there's me thinking that a four wheel drive car with the engine at the front doesn't do things like when my MR2 went. Obviously not so.

Hope you have a better time with your insurance than I did. Keep on top of them and fight your corner. Chin up

Joe

Not sure on the salvage front yet, as I haven't really got anywhere to keep the car while it's being broken. I rather not have it brought home as the misses hasn't seen the damage on the passenger side and I rather keep it that way. But I let you all know if I find somewhere to keep it.

Unless any of you guys have got somewhere I could store it of course????

Had to go and see it last night to check for personnel items etc, first time I'd seen it since the crash and in daylight and f**K me it looks bad. I'll revise my earlier statement and say the gap for her legs was down to about 20CM .

The door is all folded in and looks like the car when up the lampost as there's more damage to the sill area than the roof. :ffs:
