Yours is an import JDM model as the ST183 was never sold in this country.

AFAIK all the UK 3S-GE motors are 154 BHP including the gen 6 models. JDM motors produce better power (170odd) because they`re mapped for 100 RON fuel. Best bet. If you can find one is a BEAMS redtop 3S-GE (200BHP). It should mate up with the autobox. The problem is of course - Availability.

The alternative would be a JDM 3S-GE with a JDM ECU, better exhaust, Possibly a freer breathing panel filter and run the thing on Super Unleaded. You could go the whole hog and get a wild camshaft, Larger valves etc etc. Depends how much money you want to spend.

If you get one out of a gen 6, Make sure it`s not an ST. (115BHP)

UK Gen 5 3s-ge = 158 hp (without cat)

UK Gen 6 3s-ge = 173 hp (with cat)

Almost definately yes i would think. apart from No3 if thats what you`ve already got.

are the gt4's 3S-GTE engines?

Yes. GT4`s and MR2 Turbos. Three revisions though. From 182 BHP for the ST165. 204 for the ST185 and About a million billion from the ST205. Well almost
