Advice Appreciated (rpm)?

Firstly, nobody seems to be able to give me a stright answer about high rpm. Im just wondering if this does damage your engine and how badly. I spoke to a mechanic from toyota on the phone the other day n he rly spoke to me like i was stupid wen i sed is it ok to reach 5 n 6000rpm, he sed it will ruin nd eventually blow the engine. This sed tho isnt high rpm is there to be used? I mean i suppose its like anything, if you have a hairdryer and run it at full speed it will burn out faster than running it at slow speed. but my question is how badly are the effects of using high rpm?

I have had my car for 7 months, an 1994 corolla liftback 1.3 4efe and i have been reaching high rpm more or less every day and i have noticed my car has rly started useing oil. It goes on the dip stick from full to nrly empty in around a month. My dad previously owned the car and it used hardly any oil. My engine has just covered 100,000 miles. Am i seeing the effects of high rpm?

any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Both of my Corollas were the same, if I was gentle with the driving, the engines used next to no oil, but once i started to drive them harder, they started burning oil, more so with my GXI, that would burn a fair bit if i was driving hard all the time

As for damaging the engine, if you take care of it, ie dont let it run out of oil! and also dont hammer it from cold etc...Then i would say it should be fine, my Corolla like yours had over 120k and that was fine, also my GXI had 113k and that was also fine ;)

Just take care of it, after all it is a 12 year old car

Cheers mike!!! hey so uve finally got ur celica! is it as gud as u hoped? wil have to get the full lowdown on it wen i speak to u next on msn... as wel today i redlined my car n as i looked in the rearview mirror wen i hit about 5000 some brown crap came out of my exhaust, dunno wat that was about?

Yep, finally got a GT4, and lovin every minute of driving it :D

The power compared to the Rolla is just amazing!

As for the exhaust "brown crap" not too sure what it could be, but just make sure you keep the oil topped up to be safe
