Verso Gear Change Plus Others

Hi,

Had my Verso 2.2 diesel since March 1st and now done about 1000 miles,

could anybody else who owns one comment on the quality of the gear change when going from 1st to 2nd, mine seems to be a bit notchy, just wondering if this is normal, I must admit it's not something that I noticed on the test drive,

Oh yeah, one more thing, when at tickover with the aircon on, the engine revs pick up from approx 900rpm to approx 1100 then fall again, this happens about every 15 seconds or so, again, I was just wondering if this is the norm. it's not something any other car that I have had has done

And another one, does anybody know why the 2.2 diesel has a lower towing limit than the petrol version, by some considerable amount, same body etc, so it must be engine related, the handbook gives 2 figures, one of 1300kg, the other of 1100kg, with what looks to be the amount of seats in use in brackets at the time of towing, as I read it, with 5 seats in use the towing limit is 1300kg, is this correct.

sorry about all the questions, but you know what it's like when you get a new toy :)

thanks

My T3 2.2 diesel now has 2k on the clock.

The first to second gear change is smooth. I find the push over to engage reverse seems to have a little too much resistance for my taste, but maybe better that than going into reverse by accident.

I fully intend to tow a caravan with mine at some point, and having towed for many years with a variety of cars, I can say the Toyota feels like it will make an excellent tow vehicle so far.

Also been pleasantly surprised by the fact two adults can travel in the rear most seats in reasonable comfort.

And yes, mine does exactly the same rise and fall in revs with the climate control on, although I have yet to find out why. The local Toyota dealer didn't seem too surprised when I reported it, so maybe an answer will be forthcoming. If I get anything usefull back I will post it here.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply,

Hopefully the gearchange in mine will get a little better as the miles pile up, if not it might just be a minor cable adjustment to correct it,

If your engine behaves the same as mine with the aircon on, seems to indicate that alls well in that department, it's just the way it is :)

I agree with you that the Verso Diesel will make an excellent tow car, the power of the engine, short tail over hang and relatively stiff suspension are all promising signs

If you get info on why the towing limit is so low for the diesel version against the petrol, please let me know.

cheers again
